The music to Mary Mack appears in a book I have called

"100 Great Scottish Songs with words and music"

Published by Soodlum, the book comes complete with a cassette containing at least the first verse and chorus of every song, sung by Sheila McWhirter, Andy M. Stewart, Cilla Fisher and Davey Steel.

The contact addresses given are:

Walton's Manufacturing Ltd. River Valley House Kylemore Park South Ballyfermot DUBLIN 10 Ireland

or

Walton Music Inc. PO Box 1505 Westfield MA 01086 - 1505 USA

They also publish 100 Irish Ballads with words, music and guitar chords, Volumes 1 and 2, both of which are great resources too.

I've never seen the sheet music for this song, however the total lyric as well as a chord chard are available in a publication called "Rise up Singing" put out by Sing Out magazine. I came across it at a local library. Great song. My favorite version is John Allan Cameron from Nova Scotia who sings it a capella.

Dear Minnich,

Here are the lyrics and chords for 'Mary Mac' as I learned them. For the sheet music, I would echo Anne's advice - try Soodlum's! Their books are a good general source.

Enjoy! - Ian O'Donnell

MARY MAC

Verse: Am///---G/Dm/------Am//Em---Em/Am/
Chorus: Am///---G/Dm/------Am//Em---F/EmAm

VERSE 1
There's a nice wee lass and her name is Mary Mac
Make no mistake, she's the Miss I'm gonna track
A lot of other fellas want to get up on her back
But I'm thinking they'll have to get up early

VERSE 2
This wee lass she has a lot of class
She has a lot of brass, and her father thinks I'm gas
I'd be a silly ass for to let the matter pass
My father thinks she suits me rather fairly.

VERSE 3
Now Mary and her mother go an awful lot together
In fact you hardly ever see the one without the other
And people often wonder if its Mary or her mother
Or the both of them together that I'm courting

VERSE 4
It's sure to be a grand affair, grander than the fair
There's gonna be a coach and pair for every couple there
We'll dine upon the finest fare, I'm sure to get my share
And if I don't then I'll be very much mistaken.

VERSE 5
Now the weddin's on a Wednesday and everything's arranged
Soon her name will change to mine unless her mind be changed
And with all of the arrangements, I'm just about deranged
Marriage is an awful undertakin'

CHORUS:
Mary Mac's father's makin' Mary Mac marry me
My father's makin' me marry Mary Mac
I'm gonna marry Mary for my Mary to take care of me
We'll all be feeling merry when I marry Mary Mac
-----
VERSE 1 (Chords in parentheses) :
There's a (Am) nice wee lass and her name is Mary Mac
(G) Make no mistake, she's the (Dm) miss I'm gonna track
A (Em) lot of other fellas want to get up on her (Em) back
But I'm (Em) thinking they'll have to get up (Am) early

CHORUS:
(Am) Mary Mac's father's makin' Mary Mac marry me
(G) My father's makin' me (Dm) marry Mary Mac
I'm (Am) gonna marry Mary for my Mary to take (Em) care of me
We'll (F) all be feeling merry when I (Em) marry Mary (Am) Mac
