To Thread: I have the lyrics to Goodnight Irene but there is a little skit that the comedian does then she asks the audiance to sing Goodnight Irene. Do you happen to know what the part the comedian does? It's funny and the seniors really like to partisipate in it. Thank you, Jane Sutton

I always have said, as an introduction to "Goodnight Irene" --- "HERE IS A WONDERFUL SONG WE CAN ALL SING ALONG ON. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MOST SINCERE FORM OF SELF-CRITICISM----suicide.

Art Thieme (and you can quote me)

I always refer to it as a "delta blues" song. Reveal the answer after the song. Not hilariously funny but one more amusing line to throw in.

Apparently those who know reckon it is just that. Not surprising really, given it's author.

Spike Milligan has done this many times. He asks the audiance to sing "God save the Queen Irene, God save the Queen,God save the Queen,Irene,Irene. For god`s sake save the Queen!"
