If any of you are within range to come, there will be a treat at my local folk society this coming Friday evening--Alison Kelley & Ken Schatz of NexTradition. If you don't know them, check them out: NexTradition website

They are extremely dynamic, fun performers of sea songs, gospel, blues, work music. If you haven't heard them, I'd certainly recommend them!

They will be performing for Friends of Fiddler's Green at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church at the corner of Route 9 & Church Street in Hyde Park, NY. The doors open at 7:30 pm & the concert starts at 8 pm. PM me, if you need more information. I'll be sitting on the front row. :)

Good luck on the concert. Ken and Alison are certainly fine performers.

Cheerily,

I get tired just watching them perform. Dynamic is an understatement.
Another concert "Not To Be Missed". And pick up a CD. Wish I could be there.

Yeah, Ken and Alison put on a terrific show. Their choice of songs is great, they have tremendous energy and intensity, their harmonies are superb, their timing is terrific, their voices are rich and strong, and they are just so much fun to be around! Once in a while their schedule permits them to get to our FSGW Getaway, and it's always a treat to have them there. Hope it's a great evening.

I don't think we have many Mudcatters in this area. You might mention it to friends, if they live nearby.

I'll add my warbles to their praises. Don't miss if you are anywhere near Hyde Park.

Wish I could make the scene! I do confess to a certain prejudice, but really, these folks are terrific!

Hopefully a few folks in addition to bbc can make it!

Nancy

Hi Nancy
Definitly prejudice on your part Nancy, but absolutely true.
If it were the next state over I'd walk but NY, too far.

Well, folks, I'm just home from the concert & it *was* wonderful!!! Listening to their cd, I had forgotten how much fun it is to see them in person. I agree w/ everything that folks said earlier in this thread (&, btw, I printed it out & gave it to Ken & Alison, since you couldn't be there!). We didn't have as large an audience as I would have liked, but what we had made up for it in enthusiasm. I suspect that only a few had heard NexTradition before, but I feel quite sure that, given the opportunity, they will, again! It is equally as much fun to watch them sing as to hear them; the way they move to the rhythm of the work songs & chanteys is just great; they blew me away! And, yes to the nice variety of songs & the fabulous way their voices blend. I think I saw them 2 years ago at Old Songs, but, tonight, first row, was truly a delight! For me, a large part of enjoying music is feeling that the performers are likeable folks & that they are enjoying what they do. That went for Ken & Alison in full measure. Thanks to both for sharing their gifts w/ us. By all means, see them when you get the chance!

best,

Barbara

Sure wish they'd come South......

Room and Board?

Triangle Folk Music Society?

Archives at the University of North Carolina?

Beautiful North Carolina scenery?

Fabulous food?

Anybody?

Anybody?
