My Dad was a navigator/bomb aimer who left a reserved occupation in the coalmines to join up. He flew in Wellingtons, Halifaxes and Flying Fortresses at different times. He once said that at the end of his first tour of duty, only two crews in the squadron were left out of the guys he'd started with.... Nearly half the people who served in RAF bomber crews during WW2 didn't survive, around 50,000 -it's a staggering thought.
This is an excellent song my Dad would have loved if he was still around when it came out.

Ray

The video link above is, for some reason, no longer available. However, here is another link where you can hear it.

There was an old chap in our pub who was a bomber pilot. He got out of Holland before the Germans invaded and joined the RAF. I remember to this day the tales he told in his rich Dutch accent

"It vas on a very dark night ven ve first crossed de Cherman border. Ve fist hear de drone of de engines an den ve saw de fockers coming towards us..."

"Were these Focker Wolfs?" asked a memeber of the audience

"No, deez fockers were in Mescherschits..."

:D

I think the person who put the original video on has replaced it with another with (generally) better and more appropriate photographs.

Apologies.

The second video link, above, is now also not working. This is due to the owner removing it, after having heard that Facist and BNP videos had been linked to the Youtube page of Mike's song. He has now removed it, and will be re-posting it shortly, when he has ensured it is in the correct place.

I will post a new link to this thread, as soon as I have the new information, for those who may yet come in to read it, hoping to hear the song.

With many thanks to the creator of this video, who has spent the last two hours or more working hard to sort the problem out.

Bomber's Moon - The 'working' video!

And if you look above, you will see mention of Tom Bliss, and his song, 'Someone Upstairs' also written for his father, concerning WWII. I'll leave Tom to tell the story:
