Whilst the Bird Flu virus may not mutate into a human-human transmittable form this year it is important to get a Flu jab.
The reason is that the mutation will probably occur in someone that has both the normal and bird flu.
Something you can do to delay the process.

It was just announced on Aust TV News here that the current Asian Bird Flu strain from which a few people have recently died has shown resistance to TAMIFLU, but not yet to the Australian manufactured RELENZA.

And our Govt has stockpiled millions of doses of TAMIFLU...

Well, I've just had my annual flu jab and within days I got the flu and am still off work!! Suppose that's why it's called a flu jab - and at least I'm getting a few days paid sick leave.... I suspect it was my fault as I had a sore throat when I had the jab, but lied about it and told the nurse I had nothing wrong with me (being a bloke and not into discussing ailments...)I'll know better next year, unless the bird flu gets to me first.

But the stockpiles of Tamiflu are intended for a seasonal flu pandemic which is a completely different thing. And Tamiflu will at best only reduce illness by one day when the symptoms are already showing - it is a retardant, not a preventative.

It's a leap in the dark to say that flu jabs will slow down bird flu if it mutates to a virus that can spread from human to human from seasonal flu as we don't know what the nature of that virus will be until it happens, hence not being able to produce a vaccine in advance.

Flu jabs are the best defence against known forms of seasonal flu but by no means fully effective against unknown strains

Arnie: I've been told that since the vacine is dead, it's impossible to get the flu from the shot. Lots of people swear they got it from the shot, but they probably already had it when the got the shot.

Doug, I suspect you're right as I was probably getting the flu before I got the flu jab. Next year I'll try and get the flu jab in first!! On the subject of bird flu, I read today that it probably is not spread by migrating wildfowl but by the trade in poultry from the Far East to the West. The poor old wildfowl are catching the virus from poultry, not vice versa. Whatever way it's travelling I suspect we shall have it in the UK before Christmas. Wonder how long it will take to travel to the States??

The Trade in LIVE poultry though. There's no evidence it can be spread from dead meat.

Mr Beast, I think you've missed my point, It isn't that the Flu jab will be at all effective against the new mutated type, but that the process by which the avian flu will mutate will happen in some one with both, so the more people not having the known strain, the less the likelihood of the mutation and therefore delay in it's appearance.

Wow that's a long sentence.

We in Alaska have just been told that if there is a mutation it will travel with people from continent to continent and because of our proximity to Asia, Alaska is on the front lines.

Hope we have the sense to just stay home. Maybe we can jam through speaker phones!

I tried a flu shot once. It was the swine flu shot and I got petite barr from it and became totally paralyzed for a short while.

Once I almost died from the flu and woke up 5 days later.

Those are the breaks.

Only ever had one flu jab .... never again. I was very ill afterwards.
The doctor had forgotten to check my allergies and you should never have a flu jab if you are allergic to eggs. Which I am.

At least if bird flu does come I know that I have to trust to fate.

Such is life.

Hello everyone very good to see the discussion forum regarding the bird flu infection. Lots of drug companies are doing the research on this vaccine. But there are different side effects of all these .Tamiflu medications are working very well for the recovery of this Bird Flu infection.
