I shall be on a week long music course in Sherborne, Dorset in the first week in August. In view of the fact that it's festival season, and also the same week as Sidmouth, I suspect I may be out of luck, but does anyone know of any sessions or clubs operating in that area that I might be able to go along to?

Cheers, The Shambles.
The Trooper inn is a fantastic club,
John Waltham is a great traditional singer.
If you want to sing Surreysinger go to the West End Hall, Sherborne,
on the first weds of the month. It is the Yetties music night put your name down on the door for a turn and you get in free.
Yetties music night

Thanks The Shambles, and wildlone. I was aware of the sessions at the Trooper, and was talking to John Waltham about them at the Dorset Singing Weekend there in June, but there won't be any in August (the pub premises are being refurbished). The Yetties music night sounds a good possibility, so Ill try and give it a go!

SADfolk is probably the site to surf to but try TAPs

there should be links on my homepage but Taps is too far for me to justify as adjacent.

Surreysinger, the Yetties music night is just that.
I used to live opposite the club and went every month.
You can never be sure who might be singing, unless they have a guest singer in.
I first saw Tim van Eyken at the club when he was 9 years old and Pete Shutler said he would go far.
The bar is in a separate room.
Filled rolls, hot dogs, and burgers are on sale in the interval and they have a raffle as well.

Thanks both. Re TAPS I have their website address already, and am always surprised at the breadth of the area that they cover. Also have SADfolk in my favourites (only so that I can find it if ever I'm out that way). Thanks for the tips though.

Re the Yetties music night, the idea of the food in the interval is enticing (not a good idea for my diet though!!) As I'm going to be staying in the middle of Sherborne (at the public school) and won't have a car of my own for the week I think this probably sounds my best bet. Is the club easy to find? I'm planning to go into the tourist information centre for guidance as soon as I get down there on the Monday.
