This is just to inform everyone to please continue posting positive comments on the 'Sidmouth Positive' Thread. Any negative comments should probably go on the 'Closed' thread....where the 'Closed' minds also live.

The Sidmouth Closed thread has been started purely in panic, due to the fact that Ekhi's 'Positive' thread is going SO well. I merely put this title up to challenge the one I've just mentioned.

Thanks

Lizzie :0)

I have not seen the positive thread so I will add to this one. It shows the power of the people when an event as big as this is stopped, but the people will not let it die, even for a year. Sidmouth is dead, long live Sidmouth.

It seems to me it would make more sense to keep the discussion about Sidmouth in more or less one place, where the actual facts about what is likely to be happening can be presented and if need be questioned? (And I know there's an inconsistency in actually posting in this thread to say that.)

"Sidmouth is dead, long live Sidmouth"

Sidmouth people must be dead from the neck up to let our lovely festival die.

A folk week is all well and good but it's not the Sidmouth Festival

Sidmouth festival is an abstract concept, an ethos, an atmosphere, not a concrete thing. Put together the time of year, the lovely seaside town and the usual wonderful people, along with song and music and dance, and you have Sidmouth Festival. Different maybe, but still Sidmouth Festival.

Nice one Lizzie!

We used to say that The Dove is a metaphysical concept - perhaps that can be applied to the whole Festival! Other things have to change to survive, and Sidmouth Festival has changed in the past - and will do so again in the future. It brings in new ideas, and new life - but underneath it all, the Festival is still there.

See you there!

I wasn't going to post again on this thread, but seeing straight through the 'Sidmouth Closed' thread and watching it stay at the top of the list here...I'm posting purely to make sure that this title stays around too.

I can only assume that as Sidmouth draws nearer and nearer, the Closed Minds will become more and more desperate. I'd just let them stay on their 'Closed' thread all alone in their various disguises, just let them talk to each other. They'll enjoy that! ;0)

So, apologies to Ekhi.....I thought we'd been left in peace for a bit too long....obviously they were hanging around waiting to make their next move.

I think we've all got to understand that this is going to go on and on.

Luckily...the more everyone talks about what they're doing at Sidmouth this year, the more I and loads of others are learning what is happening all over the place.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!

Lizzie :0)

Ermmm..how can you be 'winning' when the hotels in my town are getting booked up? When major artists have agreed to come down and support Sidmouth? When there are so many morris teams coming in they had to appeal for local people to give them accomodation, as was said in the last public meeting?

Sorry guys.....I don't know how to tell you this, but.....Sidmouth is.....'Still Sidmouth'

Who are we? What are you winning? No one wins if you succede in diminishing the festival.

Happily it seems to me that the controversy has drawn out a number of positive people who have always been put off by the consumerist aspect of Sidmouth in the past and are going to contribute to a fabulous week this year.

Googling round Sidmouth I found the website of the Swan pub which was looking forward to the fes and descibed itself as an informal but welcoming venue for music during the festival. Is this a venue any of you catters frequent. Does it have good beer?

The good thing about all of these threads is that the number of different people who say they are going and looking forward to making this a good week continues to grow despite who knows how few "guests" trying to give the impression that there is a big negative movement by refreshing negative threads while saying nothing.

I am still genuinely interested, as someone who will be a first timer at Sidmouth this year, of the character of the various venues as I understand there will be a llot to choose from.

Robbie,

Mixed song/music sessions all week, from noon to v. late at the Bedford, and ad hoc sessions at the Swan, in the bar, musicians mainly, and in the two gardens, mixed sessions.

Of course the Volunteer, and, not to be missed, The Middle Bar at The Anchor, song only.

Spoilt for choice, as they are all worth visiting.

Sp maybe I should have hung on just in case something happened and not let the people in the office with kids book a prime August week for holidays after all.

The only negative thing about Sidmouth 2005 is that it was sorted 6 months too late.

Good luck to all you teachers, students, benefit claimers and senior citizens who can get away whenever you like.

Perhaps if Lizzie wants to do something really positive she should contact them rather than putting a post on a bulletin board that isn't even based in the UK.

Well said Peter from Essex.

The trouble is that Lizzie keeps writing under GUEST names so she can then answer herself and appear as the saviour of Sidmouth.

Just look at how many of the GUEST postings are in Lizzie-speak.

She's not really interested in the Festival, only in getting her name on mudcat as often as she possibly can.

How very sad that she has nothing better to do with her life.

Guest poster, why are you knocking Lizzie for doing something you are doing yourself? If you want to make serious comment, positive OR negative, you might be taken more seriously if you post under your own name instead of anonymously.

Guest, it IS a pity that Sidmouth 2005 has been arranged so late, but it was either late or not at all. We were not given the time that is normally needed to plan and arrange a week long festival, nor did we have all the things in place which were needed to run it from year to year. I think having organised it in the short time given and with no funds has been a brilliant effort.

Love Lynne

Don't worry Lynne or Cllr....a lot of the so called 'Guests' are a small bunch of sad people from Radio 2 who tend to follow me around, cursing, stamping their little spoilt feet and generally trying to anihilate me whenever they can. I've noticed all the !!!!!!!!! appearing on various threads lately.

Just let them get on with it, pretend there not even around. Nothing they can say or do will hurt me, they'v been doing it over on Radio 2 for about the last 18 months now, mainly because I like Show of Hands and they don't....but also because I speak out against their blatant rudeness and attempts at suppression over various artists and opinions that go on over there.

They don't even have the guts to come in under their Radio 2 names or even an official Mudcat name...I think that speaks volumes don't you?

Let them say what they want....they're the ones who have to live with those words being forever in cyberspace. I know that people on this thread and many others are going to make Sidmouth come to life again
and that is all that matters at the end of the day.

Keep the Spirit of Sidmouth alive, just scroll right past them.

Thanks for the kind words though Lynne and Cllr....much appreciated.

Freedom Always! Suppression Never!

Lizzie :0)

So those are going ahead, are they? Excellent. I spoke to Rosy soon after last Sidmouth, and she was pessimistic that they would happen because Peter Hook would not allow it in his bar unless in the context of a festival. From that it appears he must have been convinced. Good. Very good.

Not quite true Mr Red, There are quite a few over on BBC very into the dancing both as dancers and performers. It does tend to very arist orientated though although I post over there and my first love is an Irish session...

I think Lizzie is reading this wrongly. I don't dispute that others may end up getting drawn in but there is only one regular fallout on the BBC board. I think most of us just wish it didn't happen and wouldn't bother following Lizzie over here to post as a guest and attack her/Sidmouth. I know I wouldn't - besides which I hope Sidmouth goes well.

I'd be more inclided to look in the directions of people who don't seem to want Sidmouth to suceede, remember tht Mudcat has its own flamers and trolls and also that long series of threads on one topic have been known to produce negative reactions. The PEL series over here was one such example - even I was getting pissed off - on a subject of great importance to me.

Hi Jon, :0)

Thank you...you've no idea how much those words mean...and to the many others on here who are just trying to make a Folk Week go smoothly and happily, but who have had the verbal equivalent of 'burning oil' poured down upon them for it.

It really is quite the most extraordinary thing I've ever come across before. In fact it almost turned me off folk music and the folk world completely, but then something happened....all these people came on who were prepared to stand up and be counted, to run the gauntlet of the nastiness and who, in my opinion anyway, have finally started to overcome all the anger, rage and madness of the people that have tried to 'wipe out' Sidmouth Festival entirely!

All these good people are just what I imagined the folk world to be about and they haven't once altered my view of them all. Thanks guys!xxx

I have always had nothing but respect for your attitude Jon, I have learnt things from you over on Radio 2 and admired the way you talk to everyone with nothing but kindness and politeness. I did not for one minute EVER include you in the small group of people that I am talking about. They know full well who they are, but this has now become very personal, very nasty and let's be honest.....somewhat weird!

So....let them do their damndest! I'm just looking forward to Sidmouth and a fantastic week of fun, sea-singing, ford-dancing, all sorts of things (!) in The Anchor, craft fairs, beer tents, brilliant concerts down on The Ham, great gigs in The Acoustic Cafe
at Dukes, children's workshops, The Manor Pavillion happenings, the stories, the dancing and the sheer magic of the first week in August.

I'm also enjoying finding out about so many things that are happening and have always happened in Sidmouth Festival week....I've just never realised before. Ekhi's 'Sidmouth Positive' thread is great for that! The things you learn from Mudcat eh! ;0)

Oooh! I've lost my name....hang on a minute...why has that happened?
Is it because I came in through the 'back door' today as the other way was down? I don't know....I found the way in via Jon's message on his site and onward from there.....

I just press buttons and 'things happen'....amazing isn't it?!! :0)

Anyway....the 'Guest' above is me....as is this guest too! ;0)
