Make St George's Day more than just a foot- note in your diary. The very best in a new wave of English folk music hit The Wardrobe, Leeds 20th April, Cecil Sharp House, London 22nd April and The Sage Gateshead 23rd April for a short tour in the week of St George's Day in an explosion of music, dance and song which promises a frenzy of enthusiasm.

The Demon Barber Roadshow, a ten piece ensemble of brilliant dancers, singers and musicians, are joined for this ground breaking national tour by the winners of BBC 2 best duo award 2004, John Spiers and Jon Boden and exhilarating four part a cappella harmony from The Witches of Elswick.

This exciting tour has been created by Yorkshire based artist's collective, Three's Company, and the English Folk Dance and Song Society.

Before each concert there are opportunities to participate and learn more of these traditions and the event should prove the ideal way of celebrating St George's Day 2005.

They're going to be fantastic events and tickets for gigs are going well, I suggest you all phone up for them now!

Love Fay xx

Hi Fay
Is the Leed's Wardrobe gig free to get in? Or will there be a charge for this 'special' event?
I've been there before and there's never been a charge for the music that's on.
Yorkshire folk surely can't pass up such a great bill if it's for nowt!?!
Oh my! Just refreshed the thread on another day. Spiffing! - D

Terribly sorry but no its not free. It will be absolutly fabulous though so everyone should come along anyway. Here are the ticket prices - phone or email Three's Company for the first two gigs, or The Sage Gateshead for their one.

The Wardrobe, Leeds £10, concessions £8, workshops £6
Cecil Sharp House, London £12, concessions £8, workshops £6
The Sage Gateshead £16/11/6, concessions half price, workshops £6

Up St. George!

's OK Fay - didn't think it would be free really.
Being an ex-pat Scot living in Yorkshire these past 30-some years, one might lean t'ward being a tad thrifty!

I'll be there anyway.
Mostly cos that Barber fellow never delivered on the pint he said he owed me after the Leedsmusicscene thing!
He had more than fair oppo at the Irish Centre (Swarbaid).
Bloomin' cheapskate...mutter... just wait till I see 'im!....grumble.
Mind you, if he doesn't pay up this time, I'll have to reconsider my position!

Hugs - DMcF - keeping the St George post up!

Last time I saw that poor old chap Damien Barber @ C# House he was pretending to be a grumpy farmer dead on the floor. Just to make sure that doesn't happen again, I must be there to keep an eye on him ;-)

And for everyone already in London for CeilidhAid @ the Forum on Saturday 23rd, what a way to start the weekend on the 22nd @ C#H!

See you there, I'm really looking forward to these gigs, they'll be a great laugh.

Fay xx

Just read the posts - especially the one from the ex-pat Scot.

How about this for a bargain - free clog hire. Come on - you can't turn that down. You need to book them though, when you book your tickets for the workshop, so get on that phone.

Mind you, you don't need clogs to sing with the Witches.

Ah - the thread pops back up to the top! Grand!
Come on West Yorkshire (and beyond) - turn out for this! - Duncan McF

Leeds event of this tour at the 'Wardrobe' - this Wednesday (20th April) - see you catters there!

Whilst travelling there, you may want to listen to a relatively new radio folk outlet....

North Yorkshire Folk with Michael Brothwell
BBC Radio York 103.7FM, 104.3FM and 95.5FM (also online all week)
Wednesdays 7-8pm (nicely timed to butt-up to the M. Harding show on Radio 2)

Ah, thread refreshed....

Maybe Michael will plug it? send people running out into the streets to catch the gig...

Are catters scared of dragons?

I'll make sure he does Fay.
I got invited to record a session that evening for the show (to probably go out the week after)
- so I'll be speeding from work in Leeds to York for teatime - recording - and back to Leeds for your 'do' at the Wardrobe.
So that'll be me running down the street!
Come on out Yorkshire catters - them dragons be friendly play-mates.
Byeeeeee (refreshed) - Duncan

PS Must also insist on that pint from Barberman!
Hmmm, mebbe he better make that two!

I'd love to be there but we are in the middle of a week celebrating the Bothy Folk Club 40th anniversary, & as part of our outreach program, (sounds good don't it?), tonight we have Strawhead for a free concert in the bar of a local hotel. Steve Tilston tomorrow, phew! half way there.
Good luck
