Subject: Sun rises again in Beverley
From: ET
Date: 17 Nov 04 - 03:25 AM

The Sun in Beverley, East Yorks, opposite the Minster is open again and those who go to the Tuesday night session currently at Nellies, voted to return to the Sun from next Tuesday - 8.30 pm - first hour dedicated to learning new music!

Thanks to Roger for clearing this with new Landlord. Lets hope the current arrangements for the Sun (which is a fine pub but has had more managers than most football teams in the last five years) lasts this time.

There is another Session at the Sun on Fridays, started last wek with great sucess and continues for future Fridays.

Don't forget also that (as posted elsewhere) we are in the Sun for the last Sunday of the month session from 3pm - first one on Sunday 28th November.

The other sunday sessions are at Monk's Walk on the first Sunday and Nellies for all the others (2nd & 3rd and very occasional 4th when there are 5 Sundays in a month eg January, May, July, Oct)

Roger

Will try to get across for one of the Friday sessions some time. I'm really glad the Sun is open again it would be a pity to lose such a good pub.

Another very pleasant evening - nice to see Mr & Mrs Ossonflags. Plenty of good playing, singing and chatting. I left at 11.30pm but the aforementioned seemed set for a bit longer.

Should start 3 - 3.30 ish

You could try the leather trouserings Rog, or failing that I have a royal blue satin shirt that was a great crowd pleaser when I used to do gigs in prisons.

The Tuesday session attracted about 15 performers of whom only two of us were also there on Sunday.

So, that means that well over 30 people have turned up to play and sing over the two days . Apparently the Sunday was financially the best for the landlord since the pub re-opened and the Tuesday is also significantly more viable since we returned there.

Live music in pubs = better atmosphere = more viable pubs

Yes, Tom is very kind and eats hardly any fledgling musicians for breakfast nowadays.

Seriously, though, the workshop is intended for people at all levels of competence and confidence (the two aren't necessarily the same) and I hope that everyone feels able to join in and have a go.

Can't make tomorrow - will be carousing after our "works do". I'll see if I can persuade the others to pop in to the Sun late on - I could drunkenly request fields of Athenry or dirty old town :-)
