The Crane Bar, on Sea Road in Galway, is one of the best places in the city for traditional musis. Even better.... there's now a regular traditional singing session on the first Tuesday of the month (except July on August) , starting around 9.30 p.m. There was a fine mixture of nationalities at tonights session (May 04) and a good night was had by all. If you're heading to Galway, drop me an email at galwaysingers@eircom.net for confirmation of details.

Regards

Go raimh mille maith agat, a Mhartin. I have several friends living in Galway for the time being who, if they don't already know, would love to know about these sessions. And who knows, I might make it across a continent and an ocean and join in, too, at some more auspicious time.

David

David, I know you're interested in Irish-language songs; maybe your friends are too. I have received a notice about a singing class at Club Áras na nGael, centrally located at 45 Dominic St., from 8-9.30 pm on 11 May. Although only that date is mentioned, I think this is to be a weekly class. Information is available from Maree Ní Ghruagáin of Áras na nGael.

The notice was in a newsletr which is on-line at http://www.gaelport.com/nuachtlitir

some great music in Kinvara also, sorry I missed The Cuckoo Fleadh last weekend. I see Cushendall singer Joe Stewart lives in Kinvara now.

I was in Galway about 10 years ago and landed in the Crane more by luck than management... both the music & the singing were belting!!
I also stayed in Kinvarra for a few days... I remember one night being in the Owd Plaid Shawl... Dolores Keane was there & I was invited to join a few people including Dolores for a few drinks & tunes after the pub shut.. The whole holiday was wonderful... I bought a cassette of Dolores to remind me of the experience... I can't say the flaxen haired maiden on the cover of the cassette looked much like Dolores after a few gins!!

Brid
I was at a singing session in Flatley's in Kinvara on Monday night, at the end of what is known as The Cuckoo Fleadh . Belive me, it was a similarly bizarre experience!

Regards

p.s. Some years ago, there was an account of the Galway Oyster Festival in the Travel section of the English Sunday Times newspaper. The reporter took offence at being told he'd have to wear a tie at one of the receptions - so he went on the tare with Dolores Keane instead. If I recall aright, the highlight of the weekend for him was a taxi trip out to Kinvara with Dolores sitting on his knee singing!
