From: Little Hawk

Jim Dixon uttered something cosmic in another thread, regarding posts that kill threads. He said, "In every thread someone has to be last."

He's right. This is really something to ponder, so I have launched a thread to explore it in depth. Feel free to post and give your own thoughts on the matter.

WHO will be last in this thread???? Who will it be? And when will we know?

The suspense is mounting...

Except with thread which have been officially closed, being last is always only provisional.

Yes! And that's what's so suspenseful about it, McGrath. One can bask in the distinction of having posted last on a great thread for days...weeks...months...even years...pointing it out proudly to other people..."See? My post was the very last one, way back on May 20, 1999."

And then someone suddenly posts to it! AAAAAARRRGHHH! And so it goes. Sic transit gloria mundi.

It's lonely at the bottom.

But any of the "Joe-Clones" can easily achieve this status - they simply post, then close the thread...

THE TWELVE NOBLE TRUTHS OF THE MUDCAT CAFE

In every thread someone has to be last!

At least 50% of Spaw's posts will allude in some fashion to farting.

Any post from John from Hull or Bobert will have at least one spelling error.

At least 90% of all threads on the subject of George W. Bush will have the word "moron" in them.

Bee-dubya-ell can't count worth a shit 'cause this is only five noble truths, ain't it?

Hawk, the title is irrelevant. Once you start something like this there are certain inevitabilities inherent. Just to point them out, let me tell you that the prvious thread was titled "Killing the Thread" and here it for your reading pleasure and as an object lesson in killing threads:

Some grumpy mudcatter is bound to point out this is all a waste of time and of no interest to anyone, takes up our overworked hosts servers, or this thread already exists cos I started it and I dont like other people doing wot I am doing etc etc etc ad infinitum.

But he/she wont be the last because lots of people will post and say 'get that hair out of your arse' or 'lighten up' or just plain old 'get stuffed you grumpy git'

And they might be the last.

NO I am going to be the last. This is so boring that nobody will post after this.

I live in a sleepy little town (more like a village) called market Rasen in Lincolnshire, England.

I am going to wake them residents up by openeng a new folk club.

It is on Friday 26th starting at 8:00 until all the residents in Market Rasen are so fed up with the noise that they will come to the club to see whats going on. I will charge them a quid to find out. The money will allow me to pay artists I have booked such as Bill Whaley and Dave Fletcher from Boston Lincolnshire and Touchwood from Sydney in Australia.

In order for me to achieve that, I need all of you mudcatters from far and wide to be there. I need as much noise as possible. If you don't come, I will keep on refreshing this thread until I am the last one to post.

See you all there or else :-)

Being the last to post isn't so bad. You can fool yourself into thinking that you have summed everything up in one concise, all encompassing paragraph such that no further discussion is necessary.

Far worse is adding some witticism or apposite point in the middle of a hot topic and it falling on deaf ears. The subsequent posters reply to the posts immediately above yours and the discussion continues as if you had never been there. It makes you want to creep out of the room and wish that you'd kept your mouth shut.

I've got something to say too.
It's not going to be the last post to this thread, but.. it's going to definitely be my last post to this thread.
First and above all... What the fuck was that Spaw? Have you gone totally ballistic on us? Who the hell wants to read old history? To me that's like bringing up a tavern from 2003.
Second, I feel like I am a killer of threads, but it don't get to me cuz' I think it's only my destiny to put an end to certain threads,
and lastly, I look forward to the last post on certain threads, only because it was destined to be the last post.

With a little serious competition among self-proclaimed tread-killers, this could eventually rival the Mother Of All Threads (which I have neithe contributed to nor even read).

So Villian - when's that grand opening again - and what's the closest airport?

If "The last shall be first" etc, that makes things sort of circular, doesn't it? Rather like driving through Milton Keynes. And no, I DON'T rather like driving through Milton Keynes. Every damn roundabout looks the same. Rather like reading this thread. And no, I DIDN'T rather like reading this thread. Or the other thread inside it. How many threads can you pack into a thread? Is this thread drift or a dimensional rift? Hey, lets copy some other old threads to this one and really screw cyberspace. How do you set a theodolyte without using a match?

I'll get me coat

The nearest bigger airports are Nottingham East Midlands and Leeds. But then at least an hour car journey is necessary.

Humberside is a smaller airport that does flights to somewhere like Holland, Portugal etc. Don't know anymore.

Are you planning to come along then Blackcatter? Bit far to travel from Florida! I could provide a Heliport pad for you if you so desired. I mile from venue.

As Dylan teaches (and I believe nearly everything that he sang when he wasn't talking through his ass or obviously stoned): "The first one now will later be last" and "you'll find out when you reach the top, you're on the bottom".

Therefore - Little Hawk is destined to be the last poster to this thread.
