hi, anyone know how i can contact (write/e-mail, whatever) Ian Campbell re his great song 'The Old Man's Song' cos i've thought of adding a couple of verses to kinda up-date it a bit. Don't like to mess around with someone els'e song without their say-so. Perhaps i should leave it alone!?

It's in the Digitrad under the title "Old Man's Tale". A wonderful song - always makes me cry.

I've done a bit more digging and apparently copyright on the song, (At the turning of the century), is held by Heathside Music Ltd.

Vince - one way of looking at it is that singing the song now in 2003, as it stands, gives it even more impact, in view of what *hasn't* changed since it was written.

Check out Harvey Andrew's 'Centurion' song although perhaps it should be re-titled 'The Centenerian' as it nothing whatsoever to do with Romans, this is the based on the same format as T O M T , and works well.

Breezy, as the sleeve notes say I called the song "Centurion" not "Centenarian" because it told the tale of an ordinary man who 'soldiered' through the century, a foot slogger, not an officer. I meant it as a play on words.
Unfortunately you're not alone in thinking it shows my ignorance!
However, "Centurion" it remains now.

Copywright only means that you give recognition to the guy who wrote it. In other words, if you record it you have to say who it was written by.
whoever - that's only fair man.
If you sell a million copies then the writer gets a wee bit of the cut.
If you sing it in Pub of anywhere else then no one give a hoot.

Not all listeners have the sleave notes, I do and the subtleness of the connection between the title and the '..after having soldiered on no matter what.' is questionable.
I reckon you made a mistake! Though I know you didn't really, or did you?
