Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: nutty Date: 10 Jan 03 - 10:10 AM Hi Vince .... I'm not sure which song you are referring to. Can you give a clue? eg how does it start? |
Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: Jeanie Date: 10 Jan 03 - 10:22 AM It's in the Digitrad under the title "Old Man's Tale". A wonderful song - always makes me cry. - jeanie |
Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: nutty Date: 10 Jan 03 - 10:24 AM I've done a bit more digging and apparently copyright on the song, (At the turning of the century), is held by Heathside Music Ltd. |
Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: GUEST,vince Date: 10 Jan 03 - 10:42 AM Hmmmm, copyright eh.....p'raps i'll leave well alone although i'm not a paid performer or owt like that but there u go (don't want the folk police after me! as kate rusby would say) but ta f't replys, tis a grand song, excellent version on the 'Beggermen' album from way back! |
Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: Jeanie Date: 10 Jan 03 - 12:42 PM Vince - one way of looking at it is that singing the song now in 2003, as it stands, gives it even more impact, in view of what *hasn't* changed since it was written. - jeanie |
Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: breezy Date: 10 Jan 03 - 12:52 PM Its long enough as it is and he'ld be 107 years old now! It was of a time. Start a new song 'I was born in 1960, the product of free love... Nah, leave it be. Check out Harvey Andrew's 'Centurion' song although perhaps it should be re-titled 'The Centenerian' as it nothing whatsoever to do with Romans, this is the based on the same format as T O M T , and works well. |
Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: harvey andrews Date: 10 Jan 03 - 03:28 PM Breezy, as the sleeve notes say I called the song "Centurion" not "Centenarian" because it told the tale of an ordinary man who 'soldiered' through the century, a foot slogger, not an officer. I meant it as a play on words. Unfortunately you're not alone in thinking it shows my ignorance! However, "Centurion" it remains now. |
Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: Rick Fielding Date: 10 Jan 03 - 05:26 PM Irony will get you EVERY TIME Harvey......and I mean every time. Rick |
Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: Strupag Date: 10 Jan 03 - 09:52 PM Guest Vince, Sing the bloody song! Copywright only means that you give recognition to the guy who wrote it. In other words, if you record it you have to say who it was written by. whoever - that's only fair man. If you sell a million copies then the writer gets a wee bit of the cut. If you sing it in Pub of anywhere else then no one give a hoot. As far as contact try; My Dad, c/o Aly Campbell UB40 Huge Superstars Jamaica |
Subject: RE: Ian Campbell From: breezy Date: 11 Jan 03 - 11:30 AM Not all listeners have the sleave notes, I do and the subtleness of the connection between the title and the '..after having soldiered on no matter what.' is questionable. I reckon you made a mistake! Though I know you didn't really, or did you? Thanks for enlightening us. |
