I heard some guy on the street in Seattle sing this. Hillbilly Rhumba? Does anyone have the lyrics?

I love the gal who invented kissing,
I don't recall her name,
But I do believe that gal should sit,
High up in the hall of fame.
Until she came along this world had something missing,
Love was very nice but it was cold as ice 'til that gal invented kissing.

She patented the kiss of fire and how to kiss goodnight,
On every kind of hug and kiss she holds a copyright,
Until she came along just think what we'd been missing,
That's why today I'm shouting "Hooray"
For the gal who invented kissing.

She taught the fellas how to smooch instead of holding hands,
She taught them how to steal a kiss like they do in foreign lands,
Until she came along this world had something missing
Now I'm telling you there was nothing to do,
'til that gal invented kissing.

She taught them how to pucker up and roll their pretty eyes,
She taught them how to kiss hello, and how to kiss goodby,
And if I had my way, the only thing I'm wishing,
Is to make a date and stay out late with the gal
who invented kissing.

This is not one I ever learned on purpose, so, there may be some mistakes.
For you trivia nuts, there is an obvious mistake in the song itself. One of my tapes to the first one who points it out.

"how to steal a kiss like they do in foreign lands," , Amos? If they already had kissing in foreign lands, she didn't invent it?

Ah, but in the finest tradition of Mudcat hair-splitting...

Could be "she taught the fellas how to" "steal a kiss like they do (now) in foreign lands".

So she started the tradition, y'see?

I need a real hobby

But did Hank invent the hillbilly rhumba? It sounds pretty strange, you must admit. I don't know anyone who does that now,,except for my friend in Seattle

WaBan Zhou are you referring to Hank's song "The Rhumba Boogie". I don't think he was much of a dancer.

No, I don't know the Rhumba Boogie, it was just this goofy song( The Gal Who Invented Kissin') played on the street in a rhumba tempo, one guy singing and playing guitar, the other guy with maracas, in the Seattle rain.Quite wonderful and strange. THe guitar guy said he got it from an old Hank Snow record. Regards Wa Ban Zhou

From: Jim Dixon

Here are the corrected lyrics, based on the audio file at the Record Lady's web site:

GAL WHO INVENTED KISSIN'
(Charles Orr, Earl Griswold, 1956)

I love the gal who invented kissing. I don't recall her name,
But I do believe that gal should sit high up in the hall of fame.
Until she came along, just think what we were missing!
That's why today I'm shouting "hooray" for the gal who invented kissing.

She taught the fellows how to smooch instead of holding hands,
And she showed them how to steal a kiss like they do in foreign lands.
Until she came along, just think what they were missing!
Love was very nice, but as cold as ice till that gal invented kissing.

She showed the girls how to pucker up and roll their pretty eyes,
And she showed them how to kiss hello and how to kiss goodbye.
Until she came along, just think what they were missing!
They could only cook or read a book till that gal invented kissing.

Mr. Edison he invented the lights, Mr. Bell the telephone,
And Columbus found America. Their names are all well known.
But till she came along, this world had something missing,
And I'm telling you, there was nothing to do till that gal invented kissing.

She patented the kiss of fire and how to kiss goodnight.
On every kind of hug and kiss, she holds the copyright.
And if I had my way, the only thing I'm wishing
Is to make a date, then stay out late with the gal who invented kissing.
