Subject: Still looking for Annachie Gordon

First of all, I got great feedback from the last Mudcat thread I posted. Many thanks. Unfortunately, I was out of town and couldn't check the one that said, "the recording you are looking for is on Ebay!." (This was November 4th.) Curiously enough I was in Nashville trying to finish up a recording. My producer is John Mock (some of you may have heard of him). He's becoming quite well known as a multi-instrumentalist with a flare for the Celtic. He currently tours a bit with Maura O'Connell and tours a lot with the Dixie Chicks.

woops. hit the wrong button and posted before I was ready. I was about to say, anyway, I'm still looking for a way to obtain the Mary Black version of Annachie Gordon that was included on an old recording entitled "Christie Moore and Friends." I was told by a responder that the only instrument alongside the vocal was one guitar. That's not what I remember, unless that guitar did a few harmony overdubs. I do remember is was a special tune on the guitar, probably DADGAD. This has sort of become a holy quest. (Been looking for almost two decades off and on.) One of these days I'll obtain either the album or a copy of the song off of it. If any of you Mudcat cats can lead me to the promised land, I'd surely appreciate it.

Are you looking for the lyrics or the chords or both?

I heard Mary Black's version off her own CD which was a compilation from many old sources. It's perhaps the same version you heard. Click here for that CD.

Actually, I followed an older Mudcat thread to catch a few tuning possibilities for the guitar.

What I'm looking for is a particular recording.

I heard it on NPR (probably before they titled the show Thistle and Shamrock). Happened to be taping the program so I heard "on recording of Christie Moore and Friends.." (Wrote the program an email but so far no response.)

The album is (long since) out of print. Been looking off and on for 20 years. Just recently gotten the bit back in my teeth to ride off in search again using the internet. Found the Mudcat gang to be a pretty good resource.

So, if you know the recording, have the recording, know where I can find the recording, know who would set me that cut off the recording, etc., I'd appreciate it.

The Nic Jones / Bandoggs version of Allandale was almost certainly in "dropped C" tuning (CGCGCD).
Certainly fits nicely on my guitar...
Cheers Ralphie

Noreen...Woops!
That comes from going to work at 4 am !!!
Although, I'm pretty sure the tuning holds up for both songs !
Apologies for the confusion
Regards Ralphie
