Hi all.

Well I have been in mudcat and have been talking to some wonderful people and Wilco has asked me to start a thread on music therapy and resources. I know there has been a few other threads on the subject so if a joeclone would like to put a link in to the other thread that might be another start.

Well as some of you know as part of my degree I had to do a disseratation/thesis on Music therapy and I combinded that with the education sysytem. I did alot of research on th internet so here are a few links that helped me. ( I hope they work)

American Music Therapy Association

www.warchild.org

www.musicasmedicine.com

www.hisf.no/njmt/info.html

Farlow Music Therapy

music therapy video

healthy sound

music psyche!

There are lots of books too. A good one is 'Healing with the voice' by D'Angelo, Music therapy in health and education by M.Heal and T. Wigram and Music Therapy an Art Beyond Words by Leslie Brunt.

I hope this helps you Wilco. And I hope other people can add to this with their experiences and advice!

Thanks for the links, CF.

Joe Clones, can you link the music therapy threads with the nursing home threads, too, please?

CatsPHiddle; the Drake Foundation is also to do with music therapy. They're excellent in their field. Through them my husband, a full-time music peri, works one afternoon a week at Greenacre School in Barnsley. I presume that Drake has a website.

I think they do. I only put a few up so that others had the chance to contribute but I can look it up for you no problem.

Thank Youuuu!!!! Wonderful resources. I just left an Altheizmer's Unit in a nursing home, where we did a music program. It's nice to be somehow meaningful in these folks' lifes, but I could do a better job, using some of these resources. Thanks!!!

I suppose my guitar class, folk club and song sessions are no more than therapy for all who come although some have remarked how they need therapy afterwards!
Next therapy Friday at the Comfort Hotel, St.Albans, herts eng with Brad Bradstock

Music Therapy - original

Music Therapy Two

Music therapy - healing harps site

Bottleneck for music therapy - easy way?

Book recommendation re: music therapy

Music therapy on NPR - worth a listen

In my opinion, much can be learned about music therapy by reading the postings of Night Owl, in some of the threads listed above, and also those of Lloyd61, who hasn't been around in awhile. He's the one who started this incredible thread: A gig to remember in which his first posting, alone, says so much about connecting and healing.

Then there was his a gig to remember two in which he tells about connecting with a developmentally challenged young woman. His stories, told in such simplicity, are magic and will touch your hearts.

Another of his: A gig to remember three

And, A gig to remember four meet Jennie Reese in a nursing home and her instruments with a history.

Here are a couple more threads, each of which contains a link to another site dealing with the therapeutic use of music:
