Time for an update, is it not. Beautiful weather today, following a really storm a couple of nights ago. So weather could be anything at all really, but I am hoping for sunniness. Just bring lots of warm bedding and fuzzy clothes for evening because it can get chilly, and we will have pioneer type heat. But I plan to make a whole bunch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to keep the oven going a lot of the time. That should add to the heat. And just think how nice your overheated office in Portland or Mossyrock or Shoreline will feel on Monday.

I am absolutely thrilled with the people who are coming...you couldn't ask for a nicer mix of people or voices.

Oh forget what I said about not having to pay until the camp. I was delusional. I want you to pay right now so I can go buy a bunch of food. I'm counting on some good fresh salmon for a dinner Saturday night, and there is the possibility of some Thai food at one of the lunches. Otherwise, pretty standard music camp food (lots and lots of oatmeal and lentils will be on hand..) We'll get creative. Oysters are purchasable nearby, and I think there is public oystering very close too but I am not sure. We were supposed to have a clam weekend on the 7th but that has been cancelled..who knows, could be one during camp. I hope to pick some cranberries and blueberries this weekend.

It will be a very small camp this first year, and less structured than most. Next year we will have much higher attendance (and will max out the place very quickly I fear). I expect from 15-20 people this first year, plus a few more daytrippers. That is a great number for cooking, cleaning, etc....and I love singing with smaller groups of people...trust me, you will like this group of singers...and if you are new to these camps, this is a good one to get started on because it will be one of the smaller ones this year....

So thanks to those who have sent in their money, and if you haven't and can, please do, and if you want to attend but can't pay until camp let me know.

HOORAY AGAIN. I am so glad you both are coming, and I expect several others from Mudcat as well, some of whom are pretty quiet, but wonderful.

One thing I want to warn people about is to really watch for wildlife, for both pleasure and defensive driving. There are a lot of deer around here, and bears, although the bears probably won't be seen. They tend to like garbage cans, but I have seen one in broad daylight, and yesterday I heard rattling in the bushes where I work and I bet it was a bear. There are also herds of elk we might possibly see.

p.s...Don't forget to pay as soon as you can. Otherwise we are going to eat wormy apples and lots of lentils.

Mary, Please remind everyone of the date , not the salmon, everytime I hear that S***** word, I want to barf and run to the nearest Mc Donalds. If...if I make it, it will be for a partial Saturday and you can pro-rate a cost. If I don't make it, maybe I can catch you on the next campout.
Thank you for organizing and preparing for the SunnyCamp, I hope I can be there.
Mudjack

well, OK Mr. Mudjack..definitely a prorated cost. Actually if someone comes for a day it would be $10 and all the lentils they can eat. For one overnight and a few meals, $30. Or contact me if someone was truly broke...we aren't probably going to bring in enough to really offer scholarships this year, but I'll do what I can to help people come. The main thing is we need to cover the expense of the lodging and/or day use fee. It would sure be great if you could make it...

Do you like pork? I am going to get an assortment from a contact at WSU who swears it is great, and he is a great cook and barbecuer, so I trust his judgement. You could have a pork chop instead of the >>>

But then I feel a bit guilty because I know that some religions don't permit it...and one of the camps actually does a Kosher kitchen...well, I would if I could but I really can't. We'll just do our best...and depending on if more people will just pay up, we'll try to have a variety of foods on hand that people can combine in various creative ways themselves..my boss has 100 lbs of lentils that I can tap into and an apple tree with good pie apples and blackberries are still ripe...

I do run on about the food, don't I? I am actually looking forward to that as much as the music..the kitchen is good for this sort of camp and if it is misty out, we'll need all the heat we can get. What I really would like to do, and will not be able to really this year, but maybe next, is put together all sorts of foods from the Northwest...hazelnuts, and huckleberries, and apples and Couger Gold cheese...that sort of stuff.

oh yes, there will be nice music too.

MG.... the date is the 18th, correct?   If so, unfortunately, I can't make it.... but, out of curiosity, who's on the guest list so far? I'll plan on making it next year....

Mary, this is a great project you are running and I hope you take off with success. May make it there some day, but this time of year is not good for me to travel so far.

Sing with you some day?

Alice

I'm not comfortable providing a list but let's just say old stalwarts of various camps from Victoria B.C., Port Angeles, Seattle, Portland and environs...just a great combination of singers; great group-type singers.

Mudjack, I do hope you can be there -- and sing "Night Rider's Lament" for us!

One kind of food I usually bring to such gatherings is nuts, apples, crackers, cheese, etc. -- things requiring little in the way of dishes and cutlery and which in late Oct. should not be readily perishable. I will also bring ground decaf coffee (in case no one else has it on hand) and herb tea. I have a small coffee maker which I will also bring, if you think there won't be one available to make the decaf.

I'll be there as soon as I can on Saturday -- probably not before 2:30 PM.

Sorry you can't make it Lane, Alice. Maybe see you at Rainy Camp?

October 18-20--Friday to Sat...it sure would be great if you could make it...although honestly it is a bit out of the way from Montana if I say so myself.

Coffee and goodies sound great. I was going to say we are just going to have generic coffee and tea and bring any specialties you prefer if you are not a Folger's and Lipton type person. But we might be able to do a bit better thanks to the shopping equimen?? of Mariide.

Rainy camp? When/where.... thanks, Genie, sorry I'm going to miss meeting you. But if there's another camp in the works, I'll try harder.   And I could play Night Rider's Lament, if Jack wont - but he plays it better!

Lemme tell ya from experience, better to have a coffee grinder! (or a really big hammer, eh Genie?) I was right in that the timing didn't work for me this time, but I do wish you all luck and good song. Sunnycamp is on the calendar for next year for sure.

Alice, Lane -- everyone -- Rainy Camp, I've been told by the authoritative
sources, is always the first full weekend (Fri. eve thru Sun. afternoon)
in February.  Since Feb. 1 is on Saturday in 2003, this means RC
will be the weekend of Feb. 7-9
.  It's in Carnation, WA,
as usual.  Go to the Seattle Song Circle's website for details, and
one or another of us will post a notice here at Mudcat a little closer
to the end of this year.  (Also, look for "Rainycamp" threads in the
forum for more info on past years and general specs.)

Yeah, Jen,  a real coffee grinder sure beats trying to "grind"
the coffee inside a double baggie with a hammer.  Those beans are
harder than they look!  (I think I'll pre-grind the coffee, just to
be on the safe side.)  Sorry we'll miss you.  (Watching the Perseids
in Ellensburg next summer, maybe?)

Last night we passed the word and passed out flyers (again) at the Portland
Folklore Society's Second Saturday Song Circle.  Dunno if we got any
new recruits, but there's certainly interest in next year's Sunnycamp --
if you don't do it on the 1st Saturday in Oct.  (which conflicts with
Silver Falls gathering or something like that).

oh no...I did want to do it the first weekend in October..I am tied up the second weekend always and the third weekend conflicts with Wannadance, at least this hyear, and the weather, which was absolutely perfect this weekend, is probably better the first weekend...

Well, I am really looking forward to the first camp. Bought up some lettuce and apples from th camp I was at this weekend and have been assured that the wood that we have will be dry. I sure hope so.

It will be fun..I hope it rains this week and then is as beautiful as this weekend for the camp.
