If anyone's interested, come on over and say "Hi". I'll be at the instrument security trailer much of the festival. Ask for Mike. Thanks.

So the real burning question is, who is going to the Celtic College the week before the festival? ME ME ME, and my SO. For the first time ever, I have a chance to go, I am going, or maybe you guessed that. ;) Ok, so we will be at the festival as well, I guess that was the original question. JohnB

We will be at both (i.e. self and Charmion). We've met JohnB at Old Songs, and look forward to renewing acquaintances. I'm also looking forward to meeting you other Catters.

The Festival should be great if last year is anything to go by. I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that it is replacing Summerfolk in my heart. I've been going to Summerfolk for years, and have heard some great music, but it is becoming apparent that the people running it have no real understanding or liking for traditional music. I haven't entirely given up on it, but this year it's Goderich in August and the Getaway in Maryland in October for me.

Edmund

For those yearning for trad, they might want to look at the Millrace Festival in Cambridge (Ontario) as well.

I'll try to find you, Mooh!

I will be at Millrace as well, Morris Dancing with Orange Peel Morris. We are not hard to find, you find the the nice Cotswold Morris Dancers, in their Whites and Baldricks and Caps. Orange Peel are not any of them sort, we are the BORDER side, dresed in tatters and making lots of noise. I am the one in the Morning Suit style Black tatters with the bit of a tattered shirt and a red bow tie. We are not allowed to bite the public, so it is OK to come over and say hello. BTW if anyone goes to Millrace DON'T miss Johnny Collins, he is GREAT. JohnB

Good chance I'll be at Goderich, although (alas) not for the college (damn fine way to spend a week, BTW). I shall seek thee out, Mooh.

Likewise, should you (or any 'cats) be at Mill Race (next weekend), and see a short round fella doing occasional MC duties, come say hello!

I'll be there this year with my family for the workshops starting Aug. 6th. We'll be camping at the provencial park just north of town. We may stop in to see old friends at U. of Waterloo, but probably will not have time to visit Cambridge. The workshops I'll be in are Fingerstyle Guitar, Beg. Mandolin, Transatlantic song links and Performance techniques. I'm in my mid-forties and have short brown hair, and would like to meet other mudcatters!

JohnB et al,

Oh yeah, and I'll be around for the college too, mostly doing grunt work about the school, hanging out at instrument repair, running errands and the like.

There will likely be the usual afterhours mini-concerts and sessions at the Livery/Duke Hotel area.

See you there!

Mooh.

SueM and I will be there, along with a contingent from the Ottawa area.

Hoping to see previous collegians there, and acquaint with those 'cats I haven't yet met.

Yeah! But I didn't get to see you, or did I? I did greet a few from Mudcatville, but since I was on volunteer duty virtually the whole time there was scant time for real get-togethers. Had dinner with Phil Cooper et al, shook the hands of Jeramiah McCaw, Tony Burns, and Jo King, and someone else whose name I somehow missed. Sure wish we could have had more time together. Having seperated my left shoulder on Thursday evening didn't help my playing prospects at all, or my humour, but I can't remember a more "feel good" festival here.

My fave performers were James Fagan and Nancy Kerr. My fave crafter was Peter Cox for his funky folky stringed instruments.

We'll do it all again next year...

Peace, Mooh.

...oh, and I had a couple of great chats with Rich and Sue M. I think Sue had the only double bass there other than my own (which I let others use because it's easier than shipping one around the world), there's not alot of folk bassists around these days it seems.

If you're coming next year, book your rooms now, there might not be any later.

Still recovering...Mooh.

I was there for the whole weekend Mooh. I'm sorry I didn't wander over. There were so many people, so many things to see, so many good workshops, so much great music. I had a wee chat with Martin Gould. I'm quite excited....he's going to help me with my DADGAD.

I think my favourites this year were Old Blind Dog, Pulse, Seane Keane, and those wonderful Irish dancers. The overall quality of performance at this festival is astounding, though, so it's hard to pick favourites.

The Celtic festival is one of the summer's highlights for both my husband and me. One of these years I'll make it to the College too.
