For those who may follow such things, I've just added to my online song collection Esperanto versions of The Star-Spangled Banner ( and All the Pretty Little Horses ( The former is the long traditional translation by William G. Adams, an Edwardian cofounder of the Seattle Esperanto Society; the latter is a new (and unpolished) attempt of my own.

Hi, Liland - I have to admit the "eo" made me cringe a bit. I think I'd prefer to see plain English in thread titles. I have to admit, though - it make me look at this thread.
On the other hand, Id like to say that your site is very interesting, and I'd encourage everybody to take a look at it.

Thanks, Joe. "eo" is the official ISO 2-letter designation for Esperanto (the same standard that gives us en for English, de for German, es for Spanish, etc.). I figure if I use it consistently when my postings are essentially Esperantocentric it will warn off those who are completely uninterested and also notify those who may be actively interested. You never know who may be interested. Incidentally, I just posted the Esperanto version of Annie Laurie (and in my hymnal, three texts sung to Ar Hyd y Nos)...

At the risk of sounding incredibly uninformed, what kind of language is Esparanto?

Well, I broke down and did a search. The most useful site I found on the subject is

To all: I took advantage of the holiday to post some more songs (among other things) as well as to modify some links and link my Moscow Nights pages to the right tune (some of the links there yielded MIDIs of Aloha 'Oe!).
Among the new additions are:
Jingle Bells in Esperanto,
The More We Get Together in Esperanto,
La Vespero — a ribald parody of the Esperanto movement anthem
Sweetly Sings the Donkey in Esperanto, and
Why Shouldn't My Goose in Esperanto.
The complete record of additions to my website is at

To Susan from California: Sorry about not getting back to you. I do most of my posting from Public Library terminals and not only do federal holidays interfere with my cyberlife, but the Seattle Public Library has been moving to temporary quarters, which has repeatedly disrupted the system. I see you managed to find the ELNA site. There are also a number of useful links for English speakers here:
