Yes it is a real song. A friend sings it. I'll ask him for details when next I see him.

My wife's ex-husband used to be a DJ. He worked at a country station, and the songs to play were recorded by the program manager on cartridges ("carts" in radiobizspeak), which were stacked on a rolling tray for him to play. His job was to play a cart, make announcements or play commercials, then take the next cart off the tray and shove it in.

On the day that Pope John Paul I died, he got the announcement off the wire, and read it, and then stuck in the next cart.

Unfortunately, it was "Drop Kick Me, Jesus, Through the Goalposts of Life."

Needless to say the phones lit up immediately with people complaining about the tasteless juxtaposition and he nearly lost his job.

For some reason he shortly thereafter quit radio and went to law school, and is now a successful prosecuting attorney in Nashville, but that's another story!

".. and your mama does the Lordy, Lord" Hey, 21st C and all that - can't we admit to the "Dirty Dozens"? I've got a record of a country song called "there stands the glass" which is pretty sickening, but for sheer self-pity and self-indulgence you can't beat "The Little Things" sung by Willie Nelson. Praise the Lord, nothing to do with folk music!

Sorry this took so long. My source was unavailable during a long Thanksgiving break.

Cho: Are you on the top 40 of your Lordy, Lordy, Lordy
Will you be a hit in heaven 'cause you were a hit on earth
Are you on the top 40 of your Lordy, Lordy, Lordy,
Are you on the top 40 of the Lord

Vs. Your rise to fame was fast and made you dizzy
Your head it seems was burstin' at the seams
But did you realize what you'd be losin'
By winning all your rock and rollin' dreams

Cho:

Vs. Your songs took off saddled on a bullet
And soon upon the charts were ridin' high
But will you be among them golden oldies
In that great big silver juke box in the sky.

Cho.
