Here's a wwee poem ye micht like.

ODE TO A WEE INDIAN TAKEAWAY

Ffa the smell o Puna lamb, - better for ye than biled ham even better than a piece'n'jam a meal complete more tasty than a tin o spam a special treat

This wonderous dish most oriental has rendered haggis incidental but Rabbie it wid drive ye mental an fu o worry tae see how folk wance tempremental have taen tae Indian curry
like money lenders frae Bombay they're dressed up in a different way tae eat in pubs called Old Cathay an smack their lips when they know the dinner of the day is curry sauce wi chips

Yesee them ower their spiced japaties they now prefer tae mince an tatties or a nice wee korma wi a bit pakora's a fair delight they're gaun tae regret it all the morra or maybe through the night

for alas this pungent grub frae Puna's a cert tae gi them montezuma these hottest spices frae Punjabi that they desire will hiv them locked inside the lavvy their arse on fire

wi insides like a rifle bore they yell and scream and shout for more frae Glesga toon tae Bangalore ye hear them singin an then their clutchin belly sore their troosers mingin

For ye ken that these Punjabi dinners are deadly stuff tae Scottish innards but they mob the curry shops, quite happy! stuffin doon the tiki Nae wonder Gandhi wore a nappy and wis sae cheeky
Ah, Rabbie man, it gars me greet tae see the way the Scots now eat tatties, neeps and haggis are out'n gone and had their day for now the whole o Scotland's shoutin! Gie's an Indian take-away!
Ah don't know wha wrote it.ljc

We used to eat ours in Ithaca NY, about 2 hours away, and it was always a race to get home. Now we make it ourselves and it is much more convenient.

Look LJ.....We need to talk...............A "WEE" poemwould either be about whizzing or incredibly short, along the lines of .....

Gotta' flee,
Cuz I gotta' pee.

..... which incorporates both. Your "Ode to Gruesome Food" does NOT fit the "wee" category. Try to do better.

Most food I ate in one sitting whilst visiting Scotland this July was at the Buffet night at the Indian Restaurant in Kirkcaldy (at least I think it was Kirkcaldy, I know it was in Fife-and I can't remember the name for sure either, ask Calach-he goes there all the time!)...MMMMMMMmmmmmmmmMMMMMMmmmm, GOOD!

Here's a wee bit o it LH

Tae be or no tae be,ah've aye wondered aboot that? Whether yere better aff tae pit up wi shit or tae fecht back.Maist times ah think the answer wid be jist knock yersel aff an hae a nice quiet nap.Nae daft dreams tae waken ye up an frichten the life oot o ye as ye wid be deid oneyway. Then again that wid mibbe cause anither problem as ah dinnae know whit the deid dreams micht be worse an then ye wid be scuttered. Wi aw the finaglin an crookery that goes on in the warld at least ye get yased tae it efter a while. So mibbe stickin a big needle in yersel micht be a wee bit rash, dae ye no think. The deil ye know micht be better then the deil ye dont know.

So ah think we're to too feart tae tak the chance.

Jist talk tae Ophelia aboot it.She knows.

Your poem reminded me of many great nights spent at the Shish Mahal in Gibson St. 6 to 8 pints (20 oz. Imperial) of beer followed by tons of pakora, a chicken dhansak, a mountain of rice and a couple of chappatis, how could you go wrong? All that consumed on a 145 lb frame (that was then this is now). Incidently, when I was home in Scotland in the summer, there was a great comedy show on tv where everything was presented from an Indian perspective e.g a bunch of drunken Indian yoboos go for fish & chips after a night at the pub and insult the english waiter etc etc. It was hilarious. Can anyone tell me the name of the show. Hope it comes here (Toronto) but it may be too politically incorrect.

I ignored this thread for days, but finally thought why not. I am really surprised that I loved the poem. Not sure about "Ah don't know wha wrote it." Does "wha" mean "who" or "why [I]"?

Auld Firm Gemme - is a football (soccer) match between Rangers and Celtic - who are the Old Firm.

Hope it Helps..

ANd yes, ljc, they chose the title of the show because of the Peter Sellers/Indian connection...

Thanks folks, I needed to laugh today... If I'd realized it would be so good I would have checked it out sooner. Do you do this often, LJC, and do you always use the code words "a wee poem for ye"? I'll be sure to look for them.

Maybe you could just use the code letters "LJC". It's quicker... And you should do it more often.

Charres, also called pickle. Indian is not indian without the pickle. Ask for it. But eat it only a little at a time til you get the tast for it. Man, it's hot and salty and flavorful. I love it.
