I think Anne Bishop and her talking wolves are hugely entertaining.
They combine social/social-justice commentary
with humorous affectionate observations about 'human' nature and society.

She has published about half-a-dozen titles in her series called
"The Others" in an alternate-universe planet
where humans are NOT, oh so NOT,
at the top of the food chain / predator hierarchy
(and, for that matter, neither are the wolves).

Here's one way to introduce her.

OOPS the link doesn't work, sorry

Patricia Briggs and Anne Bishop

Anne Bishop, in her world-building,
could not resist
Australia's quokka.

So she put it in her 'The Others' books without naming it
or citing its source.
Material online outside of her books discloses that
Ms. Bishop was thinking of the quokka
for the creatures that turn up in
Lake Silence.

Where they are called 'Sproingers'
and they have a whole town named after them.

Anne Bishop's Courtyard is the public Facebook page in which her beloved Wolfguard, with occasionally mutterings from the Crowgard, talk back to their Author. Good for a laugh.

Here is the Barnes-and-Noble review of Anne Bishop's best-selling
Lake Silence:

About Strong Women and Good Men

It's also got a streak of vengeful dark humor worthy of Michael Flanders.
As another journalist remarked,
If you like your bad guys ripped to shreds, and then eaten,
this book is for you.
