Sizeable amount of Ewan MacColl's discography is now available for download purchase and listening on Bandcamp.

I assume this is legit (not least because it must have taken a hell of a long time to set up)

Thanks Matt
Just made my day
The two previously unreleased Long Harvest albums are all my Christmases rolled into one - been looking for them since the 1960s
Jim

That's quite a collection. Is it my imagination, or did Ewan record an album called "Barrack Room Ballads."?

I seem to remember such an album - perhaps about 50 years ago - but it may be just a faulty memory getting to work!

Barrack Room Ballads is Peter Bellamy.
And I think is still widely available.

" "Barrack Room Ballads."?"
Twice - once under that title and later an extended one called 'Bundhook Ballads
THinking about it, there was an earlier one still published in America
Somebody Mudcatter kindly let me have a copy of the latter
You're welcome to copies of any or all of these
Jim

Forgotten that Bellamy did a collection of Kipling songs under that title

A phenomenal amount of work has gone into this, each track is free to listen to, and the descriptions include background and words to songs. I wonder if the files have come from pristine LPs or master tapes?

I recently bought a couple of Ewan & Peggy cheapo CD boxsets off Amazon.
They are most likely grey area European releases taking advantage of whatever that rule is
about recordings more than 50 or so years old...

Could similar apply to this online resource...???

The bandcamp page links to ewanmaccoll.co.uk which looks official (has a 'Shop' linking back to the bandcamp page among other things). Looks legit to me.

It's certainly all very visible; I'd be very surprised if MacColl's estate is unaware of it... quite apart from anything, it would be a rather bizarre activity for an aspiring bootlegger to engage in, given the massive amount of time it must have involved for limited returns. Plus loads of the albums on there would not fall under age-related copyright expiry anyway (70s and 80s albums).

Matt - gladly, that was hoped for answer...

This site should be a positive example for owners of other long unrealesed archives
to be learning from...

I understand from someone who is likely to know that the family is co=operating with it
I know they had been seeing the two previously unpublished Long Harvest' albums and had located one - it seems they have now found the other (I'm delighted)
Shortly after the release of the set, Ewan recorded a public talk on the Ballad which was intended as part of the project - I was in the audience
Ewan and Peggy's son, Calum, was putting together a four-CD set of live performances which are held in private hands - no idea how far that project got

I have two elusive albums ald a few early singles to finds and I have Ewan's entire commercial output - very impressive
Jim
