So my worry wart doc buddie wants me to wear a heart halter for 2 days. What is that all about. Yea I got some pipes gummed up, but geeze I biked 30 miles, jump out of airplanes and screw all night. I know it skips beat once in a while but dang. Ok I smoke, hasn't stopped me yet

What's he looking for cause all I get is. Your my best friend, your a pain in the ass so shut up and just do what I say.

What is it, how big is it, and I still jump outta plane with it?

I think it's a monitor thingy, which is worn on your belt. It is attached to about 3 of them little round sticky pads, that they use for ECG's
I had one fitted for 3 days, no big hassle.

Bunch of wires stuck to your chest attached to an iPod (not really) which collects data.

Please see your 2nd paragraph. ☺

It a monitor that is like a 24 hour a day EKG that gets hooked up to you and records what your heart does... It has a button you push if you have symptoms such as dizziness or pain and then they go back to see if the heart was doing something weird when the symptoms occurred... Especially good for diagnosing various heart problems like PVCs (premature ventricular contractions) which causes shirt dizziness spells...

LOL, you're the victim of a mondegreen. It's a Holter monitor, named for the guy who invented telemetry. If you have infrequent heart arrythmias, this'd be the gizmo to catch it.

OK well I will give it a good work out for sure. I wonder what it will do on a 4000 ft free fall .. that should get him going cause I ain't cancelling. I got a hairy chest, every time I get something with sticky pads they rip the fuzz outta me ... dang

Go for it, Ol'ster... Heck, maybe that's a good thing if the jump will produce a symptom... I mean, they *want* whatever it is you told your doc is happening to happen while the thing is on you...

I wore one once... Was an assistant service manager at a large Chevy/Rolls Royce dealership and ran myself ragged, was smoking and drinking 8 cups of coffee a day... PVCs... Lay of the cigs and cut back to two cups of coffee a day... Oh, BTW, get another job... Did all 3... Bye, PVCs...

Good luck with the box, the wires and the jump... BTW, don't pull off one of the wires thinking it's a rip cord of the jump might not go to well... In that case the monitor might not be of much value either...

Just do it and don't worry too much about it. I wore one in 2005 and it came back and said, "You're fucked!"   This is 6 years later....... Seriously, it showed some things we already knew and helped to convince me the ICD was a good idea. Its never been needed but if it works when it IS needed, I still get a chance to keep living!

Its a diagnostic tool....period. When your heart starts to fail you initially feel like less of a man......and then you realize you are still alive to think that. Had I had the problems I have 30 years ago instead of 1997, I'd be dead. Never would have posted on Mudcat......wow...............Get the test.

My wife wore one briefly after her transplant... to check progress. They load it into a computer and it spits out a record of heart beats for a couple days. Let's 'em see if you have intermittent "rhythmical anomalies"

(If you jump outta a plane, it just might!)

Ummm... not a good idea to confuse the techno-gadgets. The docs might decide you need to be strapped to a bed.

Or strapped, depending on the doc. Don't let them medicate you.

"Heart Halter" It's a scary sort of name to give it. It makes it sound like a device to stop hearts, like some kind of taser, or something they might use for torturing prisoners in Guantanamo as a change from waterboarding..

The day before you go to have the monitor attached apply some hair remover lotion, wait ten minutes and wipe all the hair off your chest. The hair will grow back.

You will be shorn of hair in the spots where the electrodes go - hopefully not with a dull razor.

Here's another thought...

Ol'ster's tomb stone...

"I just needed that last jump"

Here's another perspective, dude... Go look at yer wife... Is she pretty??? Sho nuff, she is... You die because you didn't want to get yer heart squared away and needed to jump with a monitor on and mess up then guess what??? Hate to break it to you but in a few years there will be some other feller with his head on your pillow...

No shit...

Ask the doc what he or she thinks... If they okay with it then do it... If not??? Follow their orders... Square business...

Stubbornness has filled up many a grave, my friend...

Like they say, "Beats the alternative"...

But seriously... That pilot will be more than happy to throw you out of his airplane nest month... That's what those guys do...

beside bobster my stone will read "rather be here than eating Jell-O"

or

"someone said have some Jell-o, I said I rather jump out of a plane with no chute"

Painless, harmless and potentially useful. Keep on keeping on.
