By chance, was "Dick" Cheney hunting in the area near this time? :)

Was it over night, or daytime when it happened?

Are the fish and bird deaths related? If so, it may rule out weather.

Also, is it just the blackbirds? I know that they commonly roost together in large numbers.

Since the area has just had a bunch of tornadoes, it seems to me the birds might just have been swept up so high they suffocated or froze to death.

The tv clips show red-winged (male) blackbirds- not common blackbirds.
Wwere other species involved and the red-wings shown because they are more photogenic?
Can't really speculate at this point.

Forensic work needed; also detailed information about weather conditions.

No... unless Mike Huckabee said a prayer backwards... ;>)

There are 'guesses' about local weather...etc... I hope that's all it is.

AR being short for Arkansas, USA - there are 10K dead fish in the river and 3K dead red-winged blackbirds that just fell from the sky? Anybody know what is going on?
