Subject: Ely folk festival From: GUEST,happylassie Date: 13 Jul 10 - 06:54 AM Just like to say Ely Folk Festival was the best ever. The sunshine made it a little bit hot at times but far better than wading though mud & as for the music FANTASTIC not one bad act all weekend. My highlights were Colvinquarmby, John Tams, Oysterband & Vin Garbutt. A big thank you to the organisers & stewards as well as everybody else who came & supported what was the friendliest, cleanest & most funfilled Ely festival I have been to. Thanks also to caterers & stall holders too. |

Subject: RE: Ely folk festival From: Bounty Hound Date: 13 Jul 10 - 07:46 AM It was indeed a brilliant weekend. Excellent music, good beer, well organised, what more could you want. The Bounty Hounds had great fun with our Friday evening slot, big thanks to the lovely people from Roots Records, who sold loads of our CDs for us, and of course to the people that bought them! Well done to the committie, stewards etc etc, looking forward to next year. Loads of photos on the festival facebook page http://www.facebook.com/photo_search.php?aid=-1&view=all&oid=29810698672&s=40&hash=c904387c85da7290f3ba91393b93c136#!/group.php? |

Subject: RE: Ely folk festival From: The Barden of England Date: 13 Jul 10 - 06:20 PM The Sunday night happened Richard - and was very silly as usual. It was a brilliant festival, finely finished off by Maggie Bell, Zoot Money, Dave Kelly, Miller Anderson et all. What a fabulous weekend, and a big thank you to the organisers and staff. Subject: RE: Ely folk festival From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 14 Jul 10 - 03:51 AM So nice to meet so many of the Broadstairs appreciation society at Ely. Its the first time I've heard Maggie Bell live. Not my choice of music, but what a voice. Especially good were the number of young groups performing. Well done the committee. As it was the 25th aniversery I've been thinking what were my most colourful memories. A halo of insects surrounding Julie Mathews as she played on stage? Martin Carthy asking my daughter if he could sit next to her and her saying No. A longsword side longswording with modeling baloons. A pub session with the Watersons. Anybody else out there with fond memories? Flora. |
Subject: RE: Ely folk festival From: GUEST,happylassie Date: 14 Jul 10 - 04:10 AM Congatulations on a brilliant festival-ditto all the above comments. My fondest moments are of someone asking Martin Carthy in a meet session if it had been cheaper to breed his own fiddler than pay Dave Swarbeck. Joe Grant from Tanglfoot laughing until the tears ran down his face at his first encounter with Old Rope String Band & the meet the artist session where Dougie Maclean asked our help with words for a song.(unfortunatly I cannot remember which one). Thank you everyone for this year & looking forward to next. |
Subject: RE: Ely folk festival From: GUEST,CAP Date: 14 Jul 10 - 05:22 AM Over the hangover now!!! Had a great festival. Bring on next years, don't think you will be able to better this one though. Everything was great, the organisers should give themselves a pat on the back & a holiday to recover. |
