Here's the quote from So Far, a memoir by Joyce McDonald Brown (Victoria, B.C.: Trafford, 2006), page 48:
Jack and Andy had grown up together in New Brunswick and regaled us with stories of fishing from a dory in the Atlantic. Most of the stories seemed to revolve around the expression,

"Hurry, Rory. Get the dory. There's an 'erring in the bay."

We never could figure out what this expression meant in relation to the stories....

Thank you. I think it is something to do with my browser. This time, I got the same message on page 48, but when I scrolled down print showed up on subsequent pages. I was able to then scroll back to page 48 and read the relevant text. Seems it may just be an expression. Thank you, very much, Martin.

It's on Page 48 of the text. I picked it up with a Google search on "rory get the dory" - and it seems happy enough to link me back to it directly. Curious.

Regards

Thanks, Martin, but do you know what page it was on? When I click on your link, I get a blank page with a message saying my viewing of that book is done.

A friend remembers her granddad singing this song to her. He was from the coast of Nova Scotia. She can only remember the following and we're wondering if it is just a fun thing in itself or if it is part of a song:

Rory get the dory, there's herring in the bay
Rory got the dory, but the herring got away!

Thanks,

kat
