On my list of events to go to - I don't need to be "told" but I have been!

Who would know which pubs the sessions are in, and what types of session?

The Rowing Club is where sides booked in for the weekend will be assembling on Friday evening, but some may wander into town later on.

They will all be kept busy during the day on Saturday, but some may find time for music or song during their (brief) lunch breaks. In the evening those not attending the celidh may again venture into the town for some informal music.

The Trumpet may be a good place to look first, but the Old Red Horse and the Royal Oak have in the past been known to be sympathetic to traditional music making.

As to what type of session - whatever the participants want it to be. Likely to be what you normally find when many morris sides gather together.

Hi Snuffy,

Thanks for the info.
The reason I asked is that the band I'm in is playing in the bandstand, next to the rowing club, on Saturday evening.
When we finish, it'd be nice to go on to a music session, otherwise it'll have to be the ceilidh in the town hall.

Sorry - pressed return!

Does anybody know which teams will be there? The website is tantalisingly quiet on this point, although the plague victims sound intriguing. What tradition do they do?

Betty Lupton's Ladle Lakers, Cam Valley, Chinewrde, Earlsdon, Elephant up a Pole, England's Glory, Flag Crakers of Craven, Nancy Butterfly, Old Meg, Plum Jerkum, Silurian. All dancing in & around Evesham Saturday & Sunday.

The website is compiled by Evesham Tourism, all Morris arrangements & activies made by the 'Morris Weekend' committee.

PS

Plague victims sound like they should be a another variation in 'the Border Morris style'. 'Fraid not, they are indeed part of the Mediaeval weekend, no doubt creeping around & lurking in the town to frighten the kiddies.

As well as Evesham those 11 sides will be dancing in Broadway, Fladbury, Offenham and Pershore on Saturday. Sunday dancing is in Evesham only, and they will be joined by Pebworth and (possibly) Bristol.

This one promises to be a nice festival, so if you're not planning anything else, why not get along to The Vale of Evesham this weekend?

I just tried to purchse tickets for the ceilidh and they are only available from the Almonry (TIC) and they have no credit card machine so I will have to arrive early.

& PM Rosie.

Good to see that Mr Red (or yellow) managed to buy a ticket for the ceilidh, which appeared to be most enjoyable.

The 180-odd morris dancers all seemed to find the weekend very satisfying, as did the people of Evesham and the Vale who reacted very positively to their exposure to this unusual artform. And big thanks to the Rowing Club and the various pubs that kept us well fed and watered over the weekend

An excellent weekend for Evesham & the Vale. The Morris dancing was appreciated everywhere we went in the Vale & around town. All the sides thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sessions in the Rowing Club & Trumpet went well, with plenty of musicians joining in. Many of the morris dancers enjoyed the ceilidh & it was good to see so many 'visiting' ceilidh dancers supporting the event too.

This festival was another much needed boost to the town after last year's devastating floods.

Thanks to all concerned, especially Wychavon District Council's Tourism department! ~ this event is already planned for next year on an even bigger scale.

Once again, thanks to all concerned.

Rosie Stroud
