Hello all,

I'm trying to find a version of the cajun song "Jolie Blonde" that had the following words (in harmony I believe) Hey, hey, Criminelle"
Not a lot to go on I realize but I've searched all over and can't find this recording.

Jolie Blonde (Traditional)

Hé, ma jolie blonde, tu m'as
quitté pour t'en aller.
Pour t'en aller avec un autre.
Avec un autre vaux rien
Mais, même pas mieux.

Hé, ma jolie blonde, c'est mourir,
mais c'est pas rien.
De rester dans la terre, mais pour
toujours.
Hé, criminelle.

(Hey, my pretty blonde, you
left me to go away.
To go away with another.
With another good-for-nothing
Who's not even better.

Hey, my pretty blonde, to die,
well that's nothing.
To stay in the earth,
forever.
Hey, criminal.)

Peace, your link doesn't work.

Whose version? 'Criminelle' doesn't appear in the 'traditional' ones recorded by the Breaux', etc.

Hope that works.

Yep, that one works.

Looks like an interesting cd, but they don't say where or from whom their version came.
Looks like they quit a couple of years back.

Try that, Q. Think the info you might want is there, but I have no time tonight--in a hurry--to look just now.

Thanks for the info about Les Femmes D'Enfer. There is another group, probably earlier, who sang the same lyrics but I can't remember or find out for sure. Lost in vinyl somewhere I guess.

A slight thread creep....but as yesterday was the anniversary of Buddy Holly's death, I'd like to mention that there is a version of "Jolie Blonde" sung by Waylon Jennings that was produced by Buddy, and has him playing guitar on too. The sax features the GREAT King Curtis.

I reckon just about every other cajun band recorded this song at one time or another, and every single version slightly different to the one before.
It is, after all, the (unofficial) state anthem, huh?
I will check my recordings and see if I cant find an early version by some the "old guys" that matches your description.
Seems mighty familiar to me, and maybe even Mr Falcon and his missus Cleoma did it that way when they recorded, as opposed to the way it was recorded with the Breaux Bros (with sister Clemo) :-)

The version by The Rosinators includes
the following verse (in harmony) -

Eh a ha! Eh a ha!
Joli Blon ma 'tit fille criminelle
Joli Blon, tu m'as laisse moi tout seul

Hey Honest Frankie, you may already know of this group:
CAJUN ACCORDION DISCUSSION FORUM

I saw a thread over there a while back regarding Jolie Blon. Good bunch of button pushers there.

I remember Big Slim, The Lone Cowboy on WWVA, Wheeling, West Virginia Jamboree singing a different version of "Jolie Blonde".I think it was a parody of the original.Perhaps someone knows or can find the lyrics.I do recall the melody .

I'm also looking for a particular version of Jolie Blon and I'm hoping someone can help.

This version alternated between French and English lyrics. I remember portions of the English:

"Joli Blon, Joli Fille... the apple of my heart... you have set my heart a'whirl, though I loved you from the start... and I'll love you forever, Joli Blon...."

A quick check thru my collection has various artists recordings of this tune, starting with Breaux Bros (Ma Blonde Est Partie),
Harry Choates, Austin Pitre, The Balfa Bros, Dewey Balfa & Friends, Jimmy C Newman, and a New Jolie Blon fom Nathan Abshire.
I also dredged up Jolie Brune by Cory McCauley & the Evangeline Aces!
Every one is different, but they are all versions of the same tune.
So what was the question again ?

Does anyone know the lyrics to the Waylon Jennings version of 'Jole Blon'?

Norman. Do you happen to know the lyrics of the Waylon Jennings versoin? If so would you be able to show the lyrics on this site.

I read that Waylon did not know the words to the song (nor Cajun French) and that he or someone just jotted the lyrics down phonetically from another recording (don't know who's).
So copying down Waylon's version could turn into a sort of "Chinese
whispers" game. But you never know, there might be someone out there......

Maybe the English language version by Louisiana singer Rod Bernard has already been mentioned. I have it on LP, but unfortunately cannot play my vinyl at the moment.

There's also an English language version by Roy Acuff (which I'd only recommend to completists). It's on one of the Beyond Nashville albums (I think).
