What variety of poodle? Traditional or contemporary?

Best wishes,

Hey it was raining cats and dogs here last night.
I know because I just went outside and puss my foot in a poodle.

We too, in the UK, have had the experience of rain again. The country as a whole has had only 14% of it's normal April rainfall, only 2% has fallen on London. People don't believe me when I tell them we've had next to no rain since the middle of March.

Of course, May Bank holiday saw the official start of Summer so now it's poured down every day!

I was watching the news last night (something I rarely do) for news of the Florida fires, not a mention. Even on Sky/CBS news which puts it into 2 categories, USA and RestofWorld, there was not a word.

If you want, I can reopen the Extreme Weather Tavern we had a month back.... come in and wet yer whistles on Bert.

And then....

...just when things are getting interesting some expert comes along with facts...we don't need facts! Conjecture, gossip, urban myths and their companions are meat and drink to us!

It's raining cats and dogs here and there are poodles all over the ground!

January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.

February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.

March brings breezes sharp and shrill,
Shakes the dancing daffodil.

April brings the primrose sweet,
Scatters daisies at our feet.

May brings flocks of pretty lambs,
Skipping by their fleecy dams.

June brings tulips, lillies, roses,
Fills the children's hands with posies.

Hot July brings cooling showers,
Apricots and gillyflowers.

August brings the sheaves of corn,
Then the harvest home is borne.

Warm September brings the fruit,
Sportsmen then begin to shoot.

Brown October brings the pheasant,
Then to gather nuts is pleasant.

Dull November brings the blast,
Then the leaves go whirling past.

Chill December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire and Christmas treat.

But I think Flanders and Swann had a better idea of the weather....

January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.

February's ice and sleet
Freeze the toes tight off your feet.

Welcome March with wintry wind
Would thou wert not so unkind!

April brings the sweet spring showers,
On and on for hours and hours.

Farmers fear unkindly May
Frost by night and hail by day.

June just rains and never stops
Thirty days and spoils the crops.

In July the sun is hot.
Is it shining? No, it's not.

August, cold and dank and wet,
Brings more rain than any yet.

Bleak September's mist and mud
Is enough to chill the blood.

Then October adds a gale,
Wind and slush and rain and hail.

Dark November brings the fog
Should not do it to a dog.

Freezing wet December, then
Bloody January again!

January brings the snow ...

"I hope that's been helpful to those of you planning your holidays. Now they're very useful, travel tips. Despite all you may have heard to the contrary, the rain in Spain stays almost invariably in the hills. Oh dear, what a weather this is. Still, it was very nice yesterday, wasn't it? Spring, I enjoyed that. Missed it last year, I was in the bathroom."

Subject: Lyr Add: LITTLE WEATHERMAN (parody of BEGGARMAN)
From: Don(Wyziwyg)T
Date: 11 May 07 - 08:01 PM

THE LITTLE WEATHERMAN
Tune "The Little Beggarman" (Irish Trad.)

I am a little weatherman, you'll see me on TV,
I stand upon a box because I'm only five foot three,
I smile into the camera, to communicate to you,
That I really know me job, and every word I say is true,
Of all the trades that's going, meteorology's the one,
With the greatest chance of failure, ah! But that is half the fun,
It really doesn't matter if I cock it up you see,
For, when I'm on you're all out in the kitchen making tea.

Oh! The mysteries of forecasting are really quite obscure,
But the use of Doppler radar makes prediction very sure,
I forecast dry and sunny, over twenty three degrees,
And it rains so hard the water level's well above your knees,
Take a tip, take the day off, take the car, get out of town,
Pay a visit to the seaside, and you're sure to come back brown,
You may boast about your suntan, if you really feel you must,
But, unless they're blind or stupid, they will realise it's rust.

I stood upon me little box, one dark and stormy night,
And I told ten million viewers "There's no hurricane in sight",
Next morning, scattered far and wide were fifteen million trees,
I must be the country's worst case of the foot in mouth disease,
And since that day I've tried right hard, to cover my backside,
I predict the worst scenario, whatever might betide,
For repeating that fiasco is the last thing I would wish,
So TOMORROW WILL BE ROTTEN, and goodnight from Michael Fish.

(full poem)

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Weather may be safe to talk about...

but Tallahassee is completely engulfed by a fine yellow/blue/gray haze and my eyes are burning and my throat is irritated. Old people have to stay indoors. It is awful and so dry...eleven inches of rain below the year need already. About 200 fires in Florida and The Okefenokee Swamp is now the Okefenokee Barbecue. The Florida Folk Festival will have a fine coating of ash like it did in '02 when Offer was there...

But hey,,,it could be worse. Hurricane season starts in three weeks!

If I tried to recover my password since my email changed whey would say no such account exists and if I tried to register they claim my IP address or user name is already taken.

Its a perfect catch 22.

Gone again ! Whoosh!

Looks like the same attacker of the help area has now redirected the robot to post as a GUEST to the main forum.

One suggested possible way to keep the troublesome GUESTS out permanently is to insist on total membership then - and for those who cannot keep a cookie on their PC - they will just have to put in their password for each post.

Just a theoretical suggestion, Max - but then I don't know just how much work rewriting that will involve.

No topic here now is apparently safe...

If fire is weather, now the Georgia fire has linked up with the Florida fire and has burned over 1,000 sq. miles.

America's largest city park, Griffiths Park has burned down sparing only 3 landmark buildings.

Catalina Island is on fire and all 4,000+ people have been evacuated.

Fire season starts later in the summer.

"uh.... Peace, it was a joke, not a fucking history lesson. Knights of "Columbus" etc? Can you say "Eye-Ron-EE?" First, try a little free association from "Knights Templar" to "Knights of Columbus." Then stretch the "Columbus" to free-associate with the Arawaks; there yet? Good. Can you extend yourself just a tad and understand that perhaps the comment was intended to satirize a certain mentality that makes connections in ignorance then gets all passionate about them? Good, I thought you could. My history is not fucked up; ees a joke, mon. Apparently there's mpore than one around here incapable of perceiving such."

Has Canada been blamed for the world's bad weather yet?

Actually, a folk tradition has always been that Nebraska is responsible for the northward drift of bad weather into Kansas.

Perhaps you've hit on a better answer, that it's not Nebraska, but that

          Nebraska ^Canada Sucks.

Somehow though, I doubt that our extremely talented and capable weather persons will find that a credible explanation.
