Thread Name: Lyr Req: The Miracle of the Wheat (Ed McCurdy)
Subject: RE: The Miracle of the Wheat--Ed McCurdy
The 45 came out on KAPP (K-128 X) and it featured Ed McCurdy and the Harvesters. The song "Miracle of the Wheat" is credited to Ervin Drake - Jimmy Shurl. The flipside is "Get Along Home Cindy (Tonight is Christmas Eve)". The credits are the same.

Ervin Drake wrote a number of songs, including putting English lyrics to a Brazilian tune for "Tico Tico". He also wrote "Good Morning Heartache" which became a standard recorded by artists like Ella Fitgerald, Billie Holliday and others. Of a more contemporary nature, his song "I Believe" was hit for Leann Rimes. More importantly Drake was the former president of the Songwriters Guild of America and helped pass copyright legislation that increased royalty payments to songwriters.

Miracle of the Wheat is a cute song for it's time. It tells of a visit from Mary and Joseph to a farm in the Dakota's. The flip side is a Christmas hoedown based on the folk song "Get Along Home".
