Here's a link to his newsletter talking about peat moss.

I mowed and trimmed the back yard this evening, and that may well be the last time I'll have to. Since I don't water back there unless it is mid-summer and really dry and I want a portion of the grass green for the dogs, I don't water at all.

There was a Thanksgiving about six or seven years ago when the whole gang that gets together was at my house (I'd gotten far enough along in the year and a half since moving in to have people over) and I mowed the back yard right around Halloween. It stayed looking like that for months. I hadn't planted much in that first year; I had moved out an incredible pile of dead trees, limbs, brush, and weeds, so a simple mowed lawn was a luxury. Thanksgiving was one of those wonderful sepia-toned fall days, and once the house was ready, as an afterthought, I put two patio chairs side by side, angled a little toward each other, about 1/3 of the way down the yard (it's quite long). Every so often that afternoon and evening I'd glance out and see a couple of people seated out there visiting. It was a wonderful feeling, to know that space was inviting.

The kitchen counter has been collecting stuff for a few days. I'll clear it this evening.

I got my exercise with the mowing, and today for lunch I had my daily quota of carbs. The books says 2 slices of bread a day; in this case, I stopped by a little Chinese takeout chain at the mall and got fried rice as the side with broccoli beef and kung pao chicken. I'll avoid the orange chicken because of the breading and grease (but I do love it). After reading about what really goes into chicken nuggets (only about 50% of the "meat" is actually chicken) I'll check and see what the ingredient list is before getting it again. I think they use real meat, but I want to be sure. Fish for dinner.

My sinuses aren't happy after that dust and grass, and I think I inhaled a bug. I'll use the neti pot in a few minutes.
