Subject: RE: Gibson J300 any info please
There is a former Gibson luthier who opened up his own guitar repair and restoration shop near Kalamazoo after Gibson moved south in the mid 80's. One time when I was visiting his shop in early 90's, he was working on a J300. I remember it did have the fleur-de-lis peghead inlay and it was quite striking so I asked him about it. Unfortunately I can't remember many specific details such as what wood the back @ sides were or what the fret markers were like. Some of the guitars he worked on were assembled by him from parts he got from the big Gibson moving auction. I'm not sure if the J300 he was working on was something he put together from parts or if it was a factory instrument in for repair. The guy's name is Pete Moreno and he still has his shop in a town called Oshtemo just south of Kalamazoo. Let me know if you would like his phone#.
