Thread Name: Review: Celtic Women on PBS
Subject: RE: Review: Celtic Women on PBS
I was put off by the CD, which just uses everyone's first name, part of what I see as the Enya-fication (and now Meav-ification) of Irish popularized music presentations. Then when I saw the TV show, I was surprised at how badly produced it was, in spite of some likeable arrangements and good vocal energy. The lighting was terrible, the set design made it hard to see the Celtic women (at least on my small TV), and the constantly moving cameras of PBS music programs just leave me... dizzy. The violin player (I doubt that she would be considered a fiddle player by most fiddle players) was all about jerky head movements and flashy jumping around, but when she told the interviewer (former De Danaan singer) that "The Butterfly" was written by O'Carolan, she gave away her true ignorance of the tradition.
