The answer to your question is: you should want to sing a particular song because you can't bear that people don't know it and/or you just want to let the whole world hear this wonderful song with its amazing story.
Get wrapped up in the song as you sing it. Close your eyes and 'see' the story unfold like a movie.
I guarantee that if you feel like that about a song, shyness will melt away after the first line or two, as you sink into the storytelling. It always works for me!
