I'm putting together my post-Valentine's storytimes, featuring Black History Month. I was kind of surprised to not-see "Brown Girl in the Ring" in the database (here are the words, Dick), and I have a few I've picked up from Ella Jenkins' workshops and recordings over the years, such as Did you Feed my Cow? (yes maam).

Anyone else have any child-friendly favorites?

(Taj Mahal's Shakin' a Tailfeather ransk high.)

There's a brown girl in the ring

Tra la la la la

There's a brown girl in the ring

Tra la la la la la

There's a brown girl in the ring

Tra la la la la

And she looks like sugar and a plum plum plum

Let me see you make a motion

Tra la la la la et. al.

Single child in center of ring does a motion, then chooses a partner, zipper song, make new verses and actions.
