The name of the bar in Gasteiz is Bar Segundo. I'm racking my brain for the name of the street but I can't remember... it's about two streets away from the cathedral. They have a reasonably regular session on a Monday night. We had a great time last time we were there - there was me (pipes) Mr weepiper (fiddle) our friends Mikel (guitar, voice) Bingen (fiddle) Alex (alboka, mouth organ) Julen (tambourine) and a txistu player whose name I forget but he was bloody good. And there was lots of dancing too including the one where a guy dances around a full tumbler of wine... the crowd lays bets on whether he'll pull it off or not, and put their paper money under the glass... at the hit point of the tune, he jumps up, lands both feet on the glass and jumps off again. If he doesn't spill any wine, he keeps the money. Julen did it twice, it's pretty impressive. By about 2 a.m. the session had got to the point of all the men standing in a circle singing the traditional harmony songs, it was great.

Anyway I'm awaiting a return e-mail from my Basque pal, hopefully he'll be able to tell us the name of the street for that bar and maybe some Bibao info.

Strupag is almost right - eskerrik asko 'thank you' is pronounced like 'eshkerrrrick ashko' - really roll those r's.
