I read lots of Ryder-Haggard when in my youth so when the opportunity came to buy his complete works on Kindle for 49p, I jumped at it. Very un-pc as you may expect with lots of what is now considered racist. It was of course a different era and, as it happens, Ryder-Haggard himself was far from racist. Anyway, back to the point. The depictions of some of the African tribal chiefs with seemingly ultimate power were personified, in my mind, by Amin. I suspect he modelled himself of Dingaan or Cetewayo. Probably wrong and nowt to do with Entebbe but what the heck :-)
