In the US there is a lot of treating teachers like babysitters too. I tried to sub in the public schools but they [school admins] refused to let me teach anything. I would sign up only for classes I could teach, and in those the students were willing to learn, but admin stopped them. And half the time they [admin] would switch me to classes whose content I couldn't teach, but if I complained, was told to stop trying to teach content. I don't sub in public schools any more.
