During my postgraduate year of gaining my Certificate of Education qualification, we were asked to study Hard Times by Dickens, as a warning against being too pedestrian/rigid in our teaching methods. While I firmly believe in presenting only The Truth, an inspired teacher can get the pupils examining, assessing, comparing, forming opinions etc. It's not just posting 'facts' into their heads. I have to add that 'education' can and should be entertaining too, especially at Primary level. Young people learn more effectively if they're enjoying their lessons!
