GUEST,Lin New Movie 'American Folk' Rated PG (10) New Movie 'American Folk' Rated PG 28 Jan 18

I just read a review in the Los Angeles Times - January 26, 2018 in the Calendar section of the paper. It is a review of a new film called 'American Folk" (review written by Katie Walsh)

Briefly it describes the film which follows two musicians making their way cross-country from Los Angeles to New York after their flight is grounded in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

It goes on to say that films that use the 2001 attacks as a framing device often feel phony - exploiting a tragedy as a plot contrivance - but 'American Folk' capably sidesteps that, with a willingness to honestly explore the collective emotional state in the days after the events, filtered through folk music.

Folk musicians Amber Rubarth and Joe Purdy (as Joni & Elliot), a couple of strangers who find themselves thrown together by circumstance. When their flight is canceled, they hop into a questionable van to make the trip. Along the way, they encounter memorable life stories, discover an ability to harmonize beautifully and decide that their mission during these special few days is to "bring back folk."

The movie is only playing at one theater right now at the Laemmle Music Hall in Beverly Hills.
I hope it gets released to be playing all over as Beverly Hills is not near me at all.   Sometimes these kind of films just play at selected theaters that show art/music type films and don't always get to a lot of other movie theaters but I do hope it gets released to play all over and not just in Beverly Hills. It is a brand new movie so it may take awhile before it is shown elsewhere.
