sorry, I should have said, builds upon what was good in the past,
I think most people would agree with that.
certainly we don't want to build on what was bad,
but we have to know what was bad.
being ignorant of the past is not good because we may then
simply repeat or continue the bad. I agree with Don on that.

as for songs whose content is offensive, we can certainly
improve on that content if the rest of the song merits it,
or if not, we don't need to continue singing it.
isn't that what the "folk process" is all about?
