Fond memories as an apprentice of sitting in safety training watching short films by The NCB in house film unit. Some of the acting was so wooden I'm surprised they didn't end up working in soap operas.

One Hollywood superstar was an overman from our pit and cheeky little shits as we were, we used to shout his lines at him.

From a distance.

If he caught you, his mates would pin you down and if you were lucky it would be swarfega. Slightly less lucky a tube of grease. On a bad day, grinding paste. .....

Some of the films, , especially the electricity ones were filmed at our pit as it was large and modern using the 1100v systems other pits were slowly introducing. I never went camera side but recall as an electrician myself supplying power feeds and running cables for their lighting. Most recording gear used underground had to be housed in flameproof boxes so you don't see much camera shake as they were placed on scaffolding and heavy tripods. Microphone phantom power was classed as IS (intrinsically safe) but the microphones themselves were of the same design as intercom units for approval purposes so a lot of dialogue was dubbed afterwards.

Sorry, a few memories popping in to say hello. Forgot all about them till now.
