Dr Arnold Loxam - theatre organist from Bradford, Yorkshire, has passed away, aged 93. he was still playing regular gigs (as we would refer to them) at the age of 90!

For further details see the Cinema Organ Society's site COS News

I was privileged to hear him play on several occasions. He was a flamboyant character, very much the showman, usually apperaing in bright red socks. His playing was very up-beat, in the "Blackpool" style - indeed, he was on the team of organists at the Tower Ballroom for some years. He would often play "On Ilkley Moor Baht At", as a solo on the pedals, whilst holding his hand behind his head. I never did get around to daring to tell him that the "Yorkshire National Anthem" was adctually composed by a man from Kent, though.

RIP Arnold - fondly remembered
