It's a great site, I've linked to it before.

Jack, you're getting two different things mixed up there, please get your facts straight before you pronounce sentence on an entire country.

About Christiania (it's still there, btw).

As for the building that 'was handed over to some right-wing Christian sect', you must be thinking of Ungdomshuset. This was a derelict building owned by the municipality of Copenhagen, in which a group of very left-wing young people had been squatting for a good while, using it as a base for making, at times, violent demonstrations around town peppered with the odd raid on a few shops, setting fire to cars etc. I'm sure most people in their favourite areas of rampage were quite happy to see them go. The municipality's decision to sell (it was SOLD for big bucks, not just given) the building to a sect like 'Faderhuset', on the other hand, was a daft decision which escalated the controversy. As you will see from the link, the young people have since been given another building.

Morale: If you shout loud enough and burn enough cars and shops, you get given a house.. I guess I'm too old and xenophobic to see the value of that!

Best wishes,

Bente
