It's like the old wisecrack, "why do I get the kind of government they deserve ?" People who make a public historical claim are ipso facto trying to impose their past on me directly by trying to get me to acquiesce in it, and indirectly by duping others into going along with it--others who may then act in accordance with that interpretation of history in ways that may be harmful to me and mine. Don't think history doesn't matter: the example of Holocaust deniers shows that it does. T.
