GUEST,Rana CloudFest 2000 - Benefit in Toronto (2) CloudFest 2000 - Benefit in Toronto 23 Mar 00

I haven't used this medium for this type of promotion but wish to make an exception here since this benefit is of importance, I feel, to the Toronto folk community (and beyond). I apologise to anyone who feels it is not appropriate.

Letter explaining reason for Benefit:

How much is community worth?

As you may have heard, the TRANZAC, our host venue, is facing serious financial challenges. The club needs to raise funds to get it out of danger, and to buy the executive and members time to reorganize their operating plans. Without this, the TRANZAC faces the danger of closing.

The Cloud is committed in bringing you the best in traditional and contemporary folk music and, if necessary, could find a new home. However, the TRANZAC has helped make the Cloud unique and so we won't move without a fight. Over and over again you, our performers, and their agents have told us that part of what makes the Cloud so special is its venue - the relaxed atmosphere, its community feel, its friendly staff and its central location. All of this would be very difficult, if not virtually impossible, to replace.

Several groups and members of the TRANZAC feel so strongly about this club that they have committed their time and resources to hold special fund-raising events or have made donations. Indeed the Jazz Blast and Comhaultas sponsored Ceili were great successes. The Flying Cloud has committed to organizing a special benefit concert to aid the Tranzac. The full day event, which will be held on April 8th, will consist of an exciting line up of workshops and concerts. Some fine and well-known artists have already volunteered their time. Details are listed above. There will be 10 door prizes, as well as 10 CD packages to be raffled all day!

The TRANZAC has given a lot to help us make the community. Now is the time to rally around and give back. So we are asking you for your help by opening your heart AND your pocketbooks to help us keep this valuable asset to the Toronto folk community (and beyond). Tickets for the event will be $20 for the afternoon, $30 for the Gala Evening Concert or $50 for the day. By buying a ticket you will not only help save our home and the community's home, but if you purchase a ticket for the day, you will also receive a one-year Cloud membership (or extension). If you can, please contribute more. For $100, one year's TRANZAC membership will be included also, as well as entry into a special draw for a Gala prize!. Even if you can't attend, please make a donation to show that you care.

So come on out and give your support, enthusiasm and ideas. You will have a great time while supporting the TRANZAC. Your support is vital!

It's gotta come from the heart if you want it to work…

The Flying Cloud wishes to thank all the artists for donating their time, and the agents/record companies - Fleming & Tameluvich, Nancy Carlin & Assoc, Foklore Productions, Festival Records, Borealis, Second Ave Records for donating the CDs, Don Bird/summerfolk and Mariposa for Festival passes, Chris Aston - the Pie Guy for the pies, and all of you who attend and/or make a donation THANKYOU
