GUEST,Scoville at Dad's BS: Drink Driving (31) RE: BS: Drink Driving 23 Dec 06

A friend of ours was nearly killed by a drunk/high driver this past fall. He was on the run from another, less serious, hit-and-run accident at 7:30 in the morning and rear-ended her car at a high rate of speed, jamming her underneath the trailer of a semi truck (it was on a crowded section of road and she was unable to get out of the lane). It tore the roof off her car and bent her in half with her legs over her head. Her right leg was crushed; if her car had been a little taller she would have been killed instantly. Coworkers of hers passed the wreck and didn't recognize that it was her car; one woman called home in tears to tell her husband she'd seen the worst car accident she could imagine and was sure the person must be dead.

This guy had prior DUI's. What was the point?

A week ago, a guy was driving drunk at 100+ miles an hour on the freeway here and rolled his car, injuring his 3-year-old son and killing his 2-year-old daughter, who was thrown from the car.

I'm sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, anyone who drinks and drives is a potential murderer. Alcoholism-is-a-disease, diminished capacity, whatever--I don't care. I don't care if you're plastered and drive yourself into a bridge pillar or off the edge of the bayou, but you don't, or shouldn't have the right to take somebody else with you.
