Sorry to have caught up so late with this sad news. Jon telephoned me a few months ago to catch up with me and tell me his shocking news, I then caught up with him in Ludlow, and was surprised by how well he looked, and wondered how things were going. He will certainly be remembered as a larger than life figure, with a near operatic voice, and furious fiddle playing. In the 80's myself, Jon, Tony Harris, Bendigo and Laine used to meet up weekly at the Compasses in Wigmore, and I think we used to compete with each other, certainly I extended myself musically during those years.Jon learned The Red headed Ann from Laine I believe. Jon and Tony bought identical guitars, and played together for a while. I was always doing my own thing but used to see Jon a lot. When we met up we sometimes accompanied one another. If Jon wasnt happy about my accompaniment he would put one arm round my shoulder and tap my shoulder. I used to meet with the Charlton Arms group a few years ago, before Jon became ill, and will always remember his commanding presence. My condolences to Sue and his girls.
