Hello! I'm one of the younger people here, as far as I can tell; first-year in college. I've always sung at home and played music: my family band "Ralph and the Pickleblasters, or, The Frumious BANDersnatch" (flute, violin, accordion, bassoon) did two concerts on the porch of the JFK Birthplace last summer, playing various shmaltzy arrangments of traditional Irish, American, and Russian tunes as well as our own arrangments of various classical string quartets. I play flute, fife, and piccolo, and can get various interesting noises out of other instruments. Here at school, I've gotten heavily involved with the campus shapenote singing group. In high school, my history class knew me as "that girl who thought of three songs about the Battle of New Orleans in as many minutes;" one of the few books I brought the thousand miles out here was my treasured copy of _Rise Up Singing_.
