Used to boil them suckers--usually only the wound ones--for about 5 minutes (wound in a circle like the come), take 'em out, wipe 'em down with a soft lint free towel, put 'em back new. Yep. And agree that Elixers or any coated string would probably NOT benefit by this--unless it boiled all the coating off, then they'd be like regular strings.
